| Help with potty training! My boyfriend and I recently bought a yorkie puppy of 11 weeks old who is now going on 13 weeks. For the few weeks we have had him, we have been having a very hard time trying to housebreak him. At times he will go on the puppy pads, but usually its behind his crate, in the closet, on our bed, in his own bed or blanket, or right beside the puppy pad. We try to tell him right from wrong and steer him in the right direction but it is getting very frustrating. We even tried giving him treats when he does go on the pads but it doesnt seem to make a difference. And now instead of the engergetic, fun loving dog we brought home, his mood is more sullen and quiet & almost "pouts" now. I was under the impression dogs did not like to pee or poo in their own beds but he does it daily. Is this just laziness or what kind of tips should we know in order to get him on the right path to being housebroken? He has also been eating his poo on several occasions.. is this normal?? | Do you watch him all the time? You really need to keep him in a crate or an enclosed area when you cannot watch him. He needs to "go" right when he wakes up, after playing and after he eats. It is very important not to let him have run off the house without supervision. This allows him to go anywhere and starts a bad habit of him going where he wants to. Potty pads did not work for us so we trained Emma to go outside. And we were outside alot in the beginning. I am sure you will get more advice but I thought I would try to help. I do think eating poo is normal. Good luck! Norma |

| Welcome to both of you newbies. As for the potty training it takes a lot of patience...several months...not just weeks. Learn his signs. Watch and see if he is sniffing around before he goes and then grab him up and put him where he is supposed to go. Praise, praise, praise when he does what he is supposed to. Just keep your eye on him all the time. Good luck

| I have to agree with Patty. Yorkies are known for being stubborn and difficult to potty train. Just try to keep things consistent and get him on a routine, especially with feeding at the same time each day. This will help you learn when he goes.
