Default Need a Little help here...Schmoo's grossing me OUT!

Alright, any one had this problem???

Little Schmoo is almost 7 months old, relatively healthy and very full of #$@$ and vinegar to say the least.

Her newest trick is to empty the kitty litter box for me (yes we have a cat, it is not her litter). She waits until I turn my back and then goes over and plucks a piece of kitty pooh out, proceeds to play with it, yes play with it, throwing it up in the air, bringing it to my bed with her, and then eventually settles in to eat it. YES EAT IT!! She knows it is wrong and waits for me not to be looking, no matter how much I tell her know when she is caught in the act, she seems to be addicted to it...this rather bluntly...grosses me out to no end...anyone conquered this problem...I searched for kitty litter posts but only found ones on training her this way...PLEASE I beg of you all...give me some help with this one...I don't want a poop hound. And I love her kisses but...you get the picture...
any advice????
thanks

I've read about this before, apparently it's pretty common. There's something in cat excrement that dogs find nutritious. Most of the replies I read suggest putting the litter box in a place the puppy can't reach. Doesn't make those puppy kisses sound too enticing.

Can you possibly put the kitty box in a room and put up a baby gate that your cat can get over, but Schmoo cant'?

How sweet of the kitty to leave those treats for Schmoo...hehe

That's a tough one, and the only thing I can come up with is keeping the kitty box in a restricted area that Schmoo can't get to. However, I know how tough it is to block off an area, yet kitty can still have access.

I have heard of people putting the kitty box on top of the laundry table, where the kitty could leap to, but the doggies couldn't.

One more thing, isn't there a product you can sprinkle on the poo to make it taste bad to dogs?

Maybe some others will chime in. I couldn't imagine going around sprinkling kitty poo all the time...you might as well just scoop and flush if you do that.

I live in a small 2 bedroom condo...so putting it in a room where Schmoo can't go is impossible. I have just put the litter up on a box for the cat hoping that mischievous Schmoo can't get in there, but also hoping that the cat can and won't dump it at the same time...waiting to see the cat go poop now...what a fun game, Schmoo Poo Kisses or Cat Confusion...is there any other way to solve this...

the good news is I use a all natural corn litter so...at least it's healthy lol

Can't you just put it in the bathroom and then keep a puppy gate in front of the door?

LOL...my fat cat couldn't jump the gate to have a pee! Simply not that simple I am afraid.

I put a low gate in the hallway that leads to the utility room. Missy Cat's food and litter box are back there out of reach from the furbabies. My two senior girls never bothered the litter box, but, the boys sure are interested. If you put it on top of the washer, my question is: what do you do with the box when the washer is running? Maybe find a small table that has an edge around the top. I have one that I bought at an antique store. I'm sure if you think on it awhile you will come up with a solution that fits your situation.

I know when dogs eat their own poop, you can sprinkle unseasoned meat tenderizer on their food and the ingredient papaya, keeps dogs from eating their own excrement. Pet stores sell a similar item, but don't know if it's safe for cats.

Kaba does exactly the same thing!! She loves that snack best of all!!

I know it won't work for you, but i generally keep the gate up into the laundry room so kaba can't go in there....I'm hoping this is something we will grow out of.

Maybe the self cleaning litter box? I know a lot of cats are afraid of it but I've thought about getting it...

Our basement stairs are at the end of a pantry hall way. We have a low baby gate that the cat can jump over but the dogs can't. It works out great cause the cats food is in the hall.... and the litter pan is down in the basement. I would say find a spot for the pan you can gate off and your problem will be solved. if you can't do that then maybe put the pan up where the cat can jump and the dog can't get to it. (On top of your dryer???)

Default CleverCat litter box

Research the CleverCat top entry litter box. Stopped my dog from snacking for good. And gives the cat privacy, as well as cutting down on litter mess and tracking.
Good luck. Go to http://clevercatinnovations.com and click on litter boxes.

Ah yes, what we refer to in this house as "kitty crunchies". The reason our litter box has been blocked off for almost 6 years. Our sharpei and keeshond both thought these were a rare delicacy and dug in with vigor. So far SoCo doesn't seem interested the one time he was near them for 10 seconds but as he's such a kissy face, no chances are being taken. Also, you'd be surprised what a fat cat can jump. Our Princess is probably about 12-15 lbs and can jump the board (actually the bottom of a baby's crib) without too much problem, and she's 13 years old.

The reason they like kitty crunchies (from what I've read) is because there are undigested nutrients in the poop that the dogs can smell.
