| New Member needs help...Never had yorkies before!! I am having a real problem with my 2 new yorkies...Sophie and Eli...Sophie was born December 3rd and Eli, December 5th...Sophie is getting ready to be spayed next month..did not buy them to breed even though there is no relation between them, I just thought they were awesome puppies! I got Sophie first and then realized I had to have another one...I don't know if that was a good or bad decision...lol. Sophie has been paper trained every since the day I brought her home...Then there is Eli, he wants to go on my vents in the floor...guess he likes watching his poops fall into the vents onto the ground. I watch him constantly and when he is ready to go on the vent I sit him on the pad and praise him, but he refuses to go...I swear I think the poor thing would hold it all day rather than go on the pee pad. So I started taking him outside, b/c he tries to run out everytime the door is opened, but it is freezing cold here right now and snow is on the ground, so he won't do anything...On pretty, warm days, when we have them, he loves being outside and will go potty out there...any suggestions? I would really appreciate it! |

| Well, first off welcome to YT! I wish I could give you some good advice about housetraining. It is difficult and even more so when it's cold or rainy out. I would try blocking off an area of say your kitchen with a pad in the corner and leave him in there when you can't watch him closely. Hopefully there is not vent there and he will get the hang of it that way. Good luck and remember to take a deep breath! He'll get the hang of it eventually! |

| Well, that was a massive screwup! What I wanted to say was welcome to YT. Your Sophie and I share a birthday! For your little guy, it won't help with doggy bombs, but if he's tinkeling in the house, a premmie diaper wrapped around his middle will work wonders. I've been using them with Scooter for quite a long time. He'll even stand up and stretch his back up for me to wrap one around him now! |

| Yeah I know how you are feeling. I have 2 yorkies also one is 12wks and the other is 9wks. I had brought the female (Nyla) for my mother. She is attached to me and Miko (male yorkie). My mom doesnt want a female she already has a female cocker spaniel. I had thought about finding her another home. The work between the both of them is overwhelming at times. They have there days. Miko was doing well with his potty training by going out and asking to go out. Nyla is learning, she will potty on the pads real well when I first got her and know she is not doing so well. I desided not to give up on her an keep her. Even though I get frustrated at times with them both and the work load I love them both. I know that things will be better in time. Im learning patients very well here (lol). Good luck with them both. |

| I only know Half of what you are talking about... lol I only have one puppy!!... I was starting to get overwhelmed (sp?) so I turned to the Crate training... because I wasnt getting anything done... Gracie didnt like it at all.. I read in a book called "the loved dog" that book said to keep the puppies in the kennel for 2 hours and then take them out and let them drink as much as they want and then take them out side to go potty... I had heared from other people as soon as you take them out of the kennel to take them potty.... but then comes in the cold part... Gracie has loved the snow... so I never had a problem with that... sorry wish I could help more... good luck just so you know... a positive Gracie now lets me know when she needs to go potty!! Ive only had her since feb 19 so Im really happy!!! another thing I did... was if she had an accident I would take all of her toys away... that seemed to give her more of the idea that if she peed out side she got to play with mommy and if she peed inside she wouldnt get to play not only with mommy but also with her toys... good luck and hang in there!

| I can't help much, but I wanted to welcome you and to let you know that our girls are only 1 day apart in age. My Myah was born on Dec. 2. You said your little girl was getting spayed next month? Isn't that kinda early??? I really don't know, but I can't imagine Myah getting spayed next month...she seems too young. The only thing I can think of for your little boy is to keep him crated as much as possible and only let him run around after he has gone on the papers. Maybe he is like Myah, she won't go on the potty pads...she'll go if we take her outside. I hope you figure it out before you go crazy!!! |

| Here's what I'm doing with Tucker (6 mo. old) He has an xpen that he goes in when I can't watch him like a hawk. He has his bed food, toys and a pee pad in it. At first, I had pee pads to cover the entire xpen area and little by little we got down to just one. The xpen is in the main area of the house, so I don't feel like I'm locking him away from us like I would if I had to put him in a crate every time. I take him out about every two hours (more often when he was younger) This is often enough that he doesn't usually need to use the pad which is my goal, sometimes he still does though. When we go out, I lead him to the door with a leash and have him ring a bell. We then go to a certain part of the yard and I repeat the phrase "go potty" over and over until he goes. He now knows what that means and will go fairly quickly. The leash helps to keep him focused and under my control. We have been at this for 3 months and today when he was running around my back yard off leash, he stopped and ran to the back corner of my lot (the potty area) to poop. This is helpful for me because I know where to go to clean up the poopies and helpful for him because he is used to this spot and can recognize what I'm trying to get him to do. When I can't take him out every two hours, he goes in his crate and will hold it until I can take him potty. He is only allowed to run around my house after he goes potty and only for about 15 min, otherwise, he is either in my arms or in his xpen or crate. HTH! |

| Welcome to YT. you've received a lot of good advice. I wold definitely chose crate or x-pen training. The other thing I would add is lots of positive reinforcement -- huge praise for a job well done & along with that you could use little training treats or cheerios of a job well done

| I also started Kramer on pee pads, but he was peeing everywhere except the pad, so i started the crate training and its been going much better. He has accidents but i would say 90% of the time he goes outside. He loves the snow, i usually shuvel a path and an area in my yard so he can go, and i put a jacket on him, he really doesn't mind it. Hope you can decide on what's good for you. |
