| Types of harnesses My 5 month old is on a harness and has always used one outside as he loves to take off. I have see two more different harnesses that do not choke or go around the neck. I would like some feedback as to which one is better. I saw one that goes around the nose and leads the dog by the nose and the other one I saw the clip for the lead is down under the neck on the chest area. They are both supposed to keep the dog from pulling and leading. I need something that will keep his head up while we are walking. This morning he picked up a piece of poo from the open grassy field we have out back that he loves to run in and while I was taking it out of his mouth he bit me pretty good. Aside from getting bit, I am mainly concerned about the dangers of stuff he could ingest. I am going to be going back to work and walking will become a very important part of our daily routine. I would love to be able to walk him once in the morning for 20 min or so and once at night for a hour or so. On a good day he can walk/run/pull over a mile at a time. |

| Center chest "d" ring harnesss A YT member requested a harness with a "D" ring at the chest. This member's furbaby is in a class and the instructor recommended this type of harness. Well, we all know the special challenges of fitting our little kids, so she pm'd me with the request. Here is the prototype being modeled by Scarlett O'Harley. The harness is a bit big on Scarlett, but you can get the general idea. Once I get some feed back with the harness in a training class environment, I'll post the results, good, bad, indifferent. | Hi! The harnesses you mention are made by Premier. I've personally used the Easy Walk (the one that attaches at the chest) and the Gentle Leader (the one that wraps around the nose). Both work well although some dogs do not enjoy the gentle leader. On my website I have the Easy Walk harnesses and the Wonder Walker (also by Premier) which is a 1-piece Gentle Leader style leash/halter combo that adjusts easily. I would recommend one of these two. While the Gentle Leader does wrap around the nose, I wouldn't recommend tugging on it to keep his head up. I would rather teach a command (like watch me) and carry treats to distract him. We do this with Loki since he likes to bark at the big dogs and today using a combo of "watch me" and a treat I was able to walk past a house with 2 bigs dogs in the yard without a single bark! (And, he has not been on a walk in months!) If you have any training questions please ask! I've done tons of training with Loki and it's so much fun! Since your pup is only 5 months old he may grow out of the harnesses quickly. What size is he? Here is the Easy Walk on my site. Good luck! It sounds like you are off to a good start!

| I used a gentle leader for my collie and it was wonderful. The one thing thought that I didn't like was that it kinda looks like a muzzle so people automatically think you have a vicious dog. But then again, sometimes that could come in handy. |

| My favorite harness for Taylor is by "Puppia" He is like Houdini, but this one he hasn't been able to slip and it fits him so nicely. http://www.puppiaworld.com/shop/step1.php?number=362 |

| The Gentle Leader is by far not my favorite. I don't like it for Yorkies at all. The Easy Walk is a good design but since Ellie takes the smallest size, it doesn't seem like the mechanism in the front has enough room to work properly and I'm not sure it will ever work for us. I am getting a Silk Step-In Harness soon. We'll see how that goes. Cindy, that new harness looks awesome.

| Chattiesmom will make you a beautiful harness designed to your yorkies specific measurements. She can also make you matching leads...many colours available, with or without bling! I also love Buddy Belts...they are intended to fit snuggly (you should have someone at the store fit your dog) and there's no way they'll get out of it. They also sell matching leads.

| I have tried a regular pet store harnesses and a Gentle Leader for Tucker, and I'm not thrilled with either. He PULLS when we walk, and so we got the Gentle Leader. It helps with the pulling, but he spends a lot of time stopping and trying to get it off his nose. And, just FYI, they can still open their mouth on the Gentle Leader, both to bark and pick up things. They even say this in the directions that come with it. It's not supposed to keep their mouth shut. and people do think you have a biter when they see it which is great! Teresa |

| Easy Walk I also use the Easy Walk by Premier and I think that it works great! The only down side was my stupidity for not being able to figure out how it went on him. But then you get the hang of it. I really made my little Einstein stop pulling. I live near campus so there's always tons of bikes, cars, and students distracting and he actually doesn't pull my arm off to try to get to them anymore.
