| Question about potty training.... Okay... Chelsea is 10 weeks and is not wanting to use the bathroom on the puppy pads. When I catch her sniffing around I pick her up and put her on the pad...she runs off. So, if she keeps sniffing I keep putting her on the pad. However, eventually she thinks I am playing with her and grabs the pad and starts dragging it around, etc. If I catch her going on the floor I pick her up and take her to the pad and again, she runs off or thinks I am playing. She's in a crate at night and doesn't potty in the crate, but usually at about 3-4am she'll whine because she needs to potty and I will take her out, place her on the pad and she runs off. I put her back on the pad again, and she runs off again and finally pees in the floor. Sorry for it being so long, just curious if there's something I'm doing wrong? Any and all tips are welcome |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | seems she doesn't get that the pad is for peeing. when she pees on the floor use the pad to soak some of it up and put it back in the spot where you keep it. if it smells like pee she may go back over to it to pee again. There is also a spray you can buy at petco that smells like pee i guess. you can spray it on the pad to give her the idea that that is where she is to potty. have you tried potty training her to go outside? maybe she'd do better this way.

| This may sound crazy but.... maybe put the pads in a box, where she can't get out right away... After she has gone on them for a while cut a side down on the box where she can get in and out. She may not realize what she needs to do. At 10 weeks we put Sadie in a playpen with pee pads. She went right away and she knows this is potty. We plan to move her out side when it gets nicer so she doesn't have the pad out on the floor where she can get to it. (She shreds them any way) But enclosed where she can't get out, she figured out what to do right away! (I put a paper towel with some pee and poo from my older dog, in there for her to smell the first time) Worked like a charm

| Thanks for the advice! The only reason I'm having her use the pee pads is because we don't have a fenced in yard and they're too many big dogs in the neighborhood. However soaking it up is a great idea And as for the box, that's another wonderful idea. Actually I think it was my fault for not keeping her in a small enough area, now I keep her in the bedroom with about 8 pads on the floor and she uses them most of the time. Now I just got to work on getting her to pooh on the pads, but luckily she goes into the bathroom off the bedroom when she does Last edited by mc2319; 02-16-2008 at 04:30 PM. |

| Maybe she's one of those doggies who would rather go outside than use the potty pads? I bet in a couple weeks/months she will be able to hold it all night so that you won't have to get up at 3 am. Good luck! |
