| Teaching Sleep How many of you have taught your dogs to sleep on command? I have been doing this ever since Bandit was a tiny baby, also when scooby was here I also did this, now Bijou is here I do it also, once one sleeps, they both sleep . They all go to sleep on command, I mean I literally put them in their room NOT CRATE, and I turn off the lights and tell them go sleep sleep or go sleepy. Now this is during the day, they will sleep and be quiet until I tell them it is ok to wake up . I have had such wonderful success with this. I just wonder if anybody else does this? When I say sleep the little eyes begin to close down and not a single peep or movement out of them both , so cute ..I understand this is a part of advance training, I guess I bypassed some little things and head right for the core of the apple I suppose you can teach dogs anything as long as you are consistent. I also teach them go away when we are eating by a single hand signal and the command and also out of the kitchen and they know better but the sleep is the cream of the soup Oh, I also teach go to bed, or go to crate or box, they both march at night time right to where they are supposed to go. would love to hear from others who have also had success. It is all about consistency like with all training |

| While "sleep on command" sounds kind of odd, I know what you mean. Both my pups sleep with me, and the rule is that bed is a place to sleep, not play. They know that if they're too wound up and won't settle within a few minutes, they don't get to sleep in the bed. Coby goes to his kennel on command (usually before a command as he knows when I'm leaving for work, or putting my coat on). In fact, both dogs are waiting for me at the stairs.... "Mom! It's time for bed!"

Hi coby No, mine does not sleep with me, but when I have chores and things to do around the house or yard or in the garage I command them to sleep. And usually at 11 to 2 or 12 to 3 each day they know that is sleeping time mommy have stuff to do. At night well no command is given I just feed, walk, play horse around then at 10pm they know what mommy wants them to do. then hubby wakes them at midnite to take themout and then back to bed. But as soon as I start to change clothes to go to bed Bandit marches into his bed . What is cute is when I tell them sleep you should see the little eyes become weary and shutting slowly slowly like hypnosis LOL

I guess it is consistency, but I read some place after the fact tht that is in advance training, so I by passed some stuff and head straight to the core LOL. I was just consistent from when Bandit was a teeny weeny baby and now Bijour is just following what he does I suppose but thy both sleep when I tell them to. Lol wish I could get my huband trained that way to come sleep
