She won't Sit We are doing obedience classes and Indigo will not sit, she looks at me like "lady stop playing with my treats, now cut of this sit foolishness out, and feed me human! " any suggestions? The trainer is not much help, she just say it takes 2 weeks for dogs to learn, but all the other dogs got it, and I know Indi (15 weeks) is smarter than the average bear. btw, we're the only little one in the class, i can tell the trainer prefers the bigger dogs.

Are you holding the treat between your thumb and other fingers, with the back of your hand toward the dog, and starting at your puppy's eye level, slowly raising the back of your hand in an upward motion while moving the back of your hand closer to your puppy's nose and simultaneously giving the command "Sit!"? That is how we were shown to teach our furbaby to sit and she got it immediately. All she had to do was get a whiff of that treat and once we held it slightly above her head, she immediately put her head up towards the treat which forced her bottom onto the floor.

My trainer told me palm up, back of hand down...Indigo jumps up alot, so i go under her chin to keep her from jumping. I will try your method and see if it works, Thanks, I'll let you know how it works out! Did it take two weeks?

Let me get this straight, your trainer can't get Indi to sit and then tell's you it's going to take him/her 2 weeks to learn how to? The first thing my little guy learned how to do was "sit", and it took about 1/2 a day. I suggest you find a new trainer if at all possible. Some trainers (though they will never say it because of $) just don't like to train small dogs.
