| I think my yorkie is holding his poop I started crate training my 4 mo. old and taking him outside, he has done it outside many times 1 and 2, i praise him and give him a treat when he does, i was trying to leave him in the crate throughout the night, but he was pooping in his crate, so after many baths, i decided to put him in confined area at night with a pad. Now he is pooping about three times during the night and not at all during the day, i take him out he pees, but no poop, then i put him to sleep in the small area with his pad, when i wake up there is poop all over the pad. I don't get it, what did i do wrong, i praised him to death when he goes outside. I think he is just testing me. And if he can hold it that long why couldn't he hold it throughout the night. |

| When are you feeding him? And no I don't think dogs hold it to spite their owners. Just like owners we all go after different times of the day.

| Try changing the time you feed him. He's not doing it to make you mad or anything. He's 4 months old. He really doesn't have any control over anything. Just keep praising him and try to get him on a routine where he will go during the day.

| The thing that puzzles me was that he was starting to go outside and then all of a sudden he doesn't poop outside but will do it in his crate, i can't figure him out. I feed him three times a day, his last meal is at 5 p.m. He has last water at 8:00 p.m. and then last walk at about 10:30, but i leave him with a pad during the night and he poops at least 3 times on it during the night. |

| hahaha my roxie poops at night, if im lucky she will hold it till the morning. she is 13 weeks so about the same age. i feed her at 7,12,and 6pm. she poops like once a day and maybe twice if she did alot of good things that day and got lots of treats. usually she will poop in the middle of the night and thats it but sometimes she waits till morning. nothing you can really control but i do think you need to find a higher quality food that makes them poops less. both yogi and roxie poop once, maybe twice in a 24hr period. A better food will only help you in cleanup. It is safe to say that you will be ok and just be glad she isnt pooping all over the house hehe. |

| I did switch, i was giving him Royal Canine, now i just bought life's abundance which is an all natural no preservative dog food, i started introducing it today, but he has not done anything outside since his las poop and pee sometime in the early morning hour. I was up at 6:40 and put him in his crate and since then have been outside every hour and nothing yet. I can see a crate accident coming on soon. He just stopped going outside he prefers the crate. Yesterday my husband took him out at night he had already pooped in the crate and then pooped again outside, he got treated and praised for going outside, now today back to nothing. |

| you have to stay consistant and persistant. that and a pen with pee pads helps. i found it very difficult to use a crate because they get to the point where they really dont care if they sleep in poop or not. hope everything works |

The dogs that indeed "don't care" are usually taught that practice by poor breeders who force them (and their dams) to live in their own feces - and again, it's not about them "caring" or not, it's about what they're taught to do from the get go. They are taught by their dams to live in (i.e. accept) their own filth. Sad, but very true. Those are the pups that are so tough to train.

| I tried leaving him at night with a pad, but that was why he was holding it and then pooping all through the night until the pad was full then he would go outside of it. I am still putting him in the crate, but now i get up once in the middle of the night to let him out, this must be love, did i tell you its about 20 here during the night. Last night he didn't do anything which i was so proud but then he didn't got outside after many walks and then i had a visitor and put him in the crate and within 5 minutes he pooped in there, no signal or wheep whatsoever just went ahead and pooped. He doesn't seem to like doing it in his crate, he usually has a face of shame and is glued against one side of the crate to avoid it. Why doesn't he bark or something to let me know? |

| yorkies are crazy, just keep it up and make sure he gets to go out every hour or so...if you want to take him out at night a 20 degrees he probably wont ever go potty when it is that cold so its better just to leave him in a pen lined with pee pads, a tiny bed or blanket that you dont mind if it gets soiled and a bowl of water. it wont be long before he holds it in till morning roxie is 14 weeks and she doesnt ever go in her pen anymore so the plan works hehe. consistancy |
