| Are yorkies known to be CHEWERS? I have put a deposit on a male yorkie puppy and am very excited about getting him in a month or so, but all I keep hearing from my mom is that they will chew your whole house up. Is this typical of yorkies or is she full of it? PLMK if anyone has heard or experienced this. |

| Some are chewers when they are pups and it is best to keep them confined when you cant watch them. They become alot calmer as they are adults

| It would be my guess that most puppies are chewer's. When their baby teeth come in they chew to relieve the irritation to the gums and by doing so help the teeth break through the gums. Yes they chew but not because they are Yorkies but because they are babies with teeth coming in. Some puppies actually eat door frames, walls and chew up carpeting and flooring! It is very important to have the proper and safe chew toys around for them to chew on. Teaching you puppy to chew on what belongs to him/her from the beginning will prevent them from chewing your things up. Good luck. |

| Any dog or puppy can turn out to be a chewer no matter what breed.

| We got Max when he was 11 wks old and he's never chewed on anything other than his toys. Even those he doesn't really chew up or anything. He's still got the first toy we ever bought him (which was the day after we got him and he's almost 3 now). It was a little fuzzy frisbee type of thing that squeaks. It's STILL his favorite toy!

| I have some now that are big time chewers. They have chewed 3 phone cords already. They kept unpluging the lamp behind the couch so we had to make it so they could not get to that. I am always telling them 'No, stop, don't chew on that!' They can do this right under you nose. We can't dare lay the cell phone on the end table by the couch because the minute you get up they find it and think it is a great chew toy. It is just like running after a bunch of toddlers. Just let them find a piece of paper and they can shred it into a million pieces. I try to leave plenty of cow ears and cow hooves around for them to chew on and that helps but they are so mischievous. These are 4 month old Yorkies....it does get better as they get older. I just love them. |

| Mine chewed chew toys as pups, and one cookbook spine on a low shelf did suffer some damage, but not too bad. They were kept crated at night and for 6 hours during the day when no one was home. We kept an eye on them of course, and didn't leave the super easy targets around (like shoes). 2 weeks ago (the dogs are now 1 year, 7 months old) I decided that during the day, they could have a portion of the kitchen, which I was able to child gate closed. Lucy decided now was a good time to start a little "Yorkie remodeling" and chewed a wall corner, peeled up the wall paper and began working the wood trim. So, she went back to the crate and Tucker (my angel) was still left out. However, he took up the remodeling project after Lucy's incarceration and threw up 4 times. I was freaking out til I saw the tiny pieces of wall paper in the puke. Now they are both back in the crate. They have "spring fever"- here in Illinois we have had a record amount of snow fall and we haven't been able to walk outside in the mornings since October. So they are bored. Despite having TONS of toys, the do need to be exercised- and not just the play they do with each other. Lucy is really the high energy one. So I put her on the treadmill each morning for 20 minutes now. I still don't trust them out of the crate again (yet). Teresa |

| Lucy isn't what I would call a chewer but I have always made sure I have plenty of toys for her to chew on should she want to and lot's to play with and keep her mind busy so she won't get bored...

| Woody is pretty good about chewing only what he should chew.. AKA his toys... but Tinker is pretty bad about it.. ever since we got her... we have tried to get her to stop but she just goes to chew on something else! The worst part? When she chew's on something like the carpet or something... a lot of times Woody joins in the fun! GRRR! Irritating.. She seems to be doing it less (hasn't done the carpet in a while) but now it's on a wooden thing here and there. Woody is 9 months old and Tinker is only 5 months old. |

| Harvey Is My 2nd Yorkie And Neither Of Them Were Chewers, Just Make Sure There Are Plenty Of Chew Toys Around And Discourage Chewing Anything Else From The Begining.
