| Pee pads Thanks to all of you have welcomed me. Anyway, do you think using pee pads is better compared to going outside. Buttons is so small and I worry way too much, for example a hawk may swoop down and get her She is using the pads very well to be only 8 weeks old, yet she may not make it sometimes all the way to the pad, and missies it a couple of inches.

| Gosh, yes, let her use pee pads at her age. Yorkie puppies are supposed to stay with their mothers until they are twelve weeks old. She is way too young to be on her own and especially outside. She is also very vulnerable to the deadly puppy diseases like parvo until she has all her shots (about four months). Until then, it's not safe for her to walk in areas other dogs have been. The parvo virus can live for months on surfaces and even be brought in on tires and your shoes. |

| Pee pads at this age are great. Even though she is pee pad trained, I'd also highly encourage you taking her outside most of the time to relieve herself....Supervised of course. My two are adults now and I work from home. They were orignally trained on pee pads and since I work from home, I take them outside to relieve themselves every hour. I'd say now they are 98% potty trained outside and 2 % inside on the pee pad. My male will not go inside, but my female still uses the pee pad once in a great while. Keep in mind, if you work outside the home pee pads (disposable or washable) are a great option. |

| Yes I thought it was quiet young to be taken from her mother too. She was a gift to my daughter for Christmas by her grandmother, so now she is kinda mine and I have fell in love with her. To make a long story short, my daughter is nine and she wanted a yorkie for Christmas and I said no, but her grandmother got one to keep at her house, which if its gonna be my daughters she would never see much cause they live almost two hours away. Soooo, she stays with us and I love that little dog. I just worry so much. Ok back to the point, my vet says a pup can be taken away at 4 weeks, which i think is crazy. But she has done well to be so young. I am proud of her when she uses her pads. She can be a little meany too, any help with how to discipline her without spanking? Quote:

| Bella came home to me at 8 weeks old, I had no clue she wasn't old enough as I've always had large breed dogs and that is the standard age for them to leave the breeder. Anyway, the weather was nice out, it was summer so I trained her to go outside on a leash and used a crate for a bit and it worked out well. Then when we had a nasty thunderstorm and I decided to give pee pads a go at that point, prolly 2 weeks into it all. She took to them very quickly and is cross-trained now. I do not bring her out to go much at all right now because it is just nasty here in the winter time. Coco just came home recently, she was about 12 weeks old and the weather was already nasty so I just had her use the pee pads from the get go. (they use an expen aka.. their palace) She took to them right away and ocassionally she will miss them with her poop but usually it's just because she is standing on the pad but her little butt is over the edge so of no fault of her own. When the weather get's nicer I will be working with her to have her cross trained as well, although I'm sure it will be difficult. I do have a house with a fenced in backyard but will never let either of them outside alone. We live in an area where there are Coyote's, fox and plenty of hawks. and owls. Not to mention we have 2 large breed dogs that I will not allow to run free with the little ones around them. I just don't want to take the chance of anything happening to my little girls, so if they end up being only pee pad trained in the long run so be it

A pup can be weened at 4 weeks, it is many a valuable lesson that pup learns from his momma and litter mates that will be missed out on.

| I think I would change vets...I love getting my pups at 6 weeks, and have never had a problem, and actually have had less problems with biting etc. from the ones I've gotten at 6-7 weeks, but, I would never take a 4 week puppy.. I love the pee pads, and they're especially great for people who have dogs and can't be home with them to take them out..I'm home all the time, and I still use the pee pads, as that's what works best for me. good luck in whatever you decide to do. |

| Of course, it's ok to let her use the pads. You want to also remember that sometimes it's too cold or snowy and icey or there are thunderstorms or just night time when you don't want them to go outside. I trained mine to go on pads at first then gravitated to doorbells on both the patio door and the door to the attached garage. I placed pads in the garage. So, in decent weather I let her go outside if she wants. At night, she knows to go to the door to the garage and rings the bell. This has worked very well for my yorkie who is now passed on and for Kacee, too. I just never wanted them running around in the yard, even though it is fenced, at night. I never let her go out without me, anyway. I'm too scared of so many things happening to her.

| It's fine to use a pee pad especially at a young age. I got my yorkie at 8 weeks and had no problem with him, of couse he was also a sturdy 3.5 lbs at that age . Anyway I used pee pads untill he was 4 months old he would go out sometimes too. I kept the pads by the door that he would go out of. My vet then recommended to have him use the potty outs side (she is not too fond of pee pads unless you are away for a long period of time). So at 4 months I took up the pee pad and he has been using the potty outside with not problems. When he has to go out he runs up to me, barks and turns around in circles. I am not sure if it is his large size or just luck but he has only had 4 or 5 accidents in the house since I have had him (he is now 9 months old), and has never been confined, even when we go out. I think they are very smart dogs and training is no problem with them at any age. |

| I got Meka at 9 wks. I think the age a pup can leave their mother differs from state to state...and is certainly a matter of opinion. We pad trained her from day one and she's 98% trained at the moment. But considering she has full run of the house, she's doing great! I use pee pads cause it works so much better for our schedules and for her. Not to mention, seasons change and so does the weather and Meka doesnt like her paws wet You do have to be consistant and a lot of patience wouldnt hurt. For a while you'll have to watch her like a hawk. Just making sure that after eating/drinking, allow a little time to pass and send her to her pad. Keep reminding her that's where she needs to go and praise, praise, praise her when she does it correctly.... and she'll get it
