| Potty problum is this common My lily is smart I think , let me explain when we got her we were teaching her to potty outside because my vet said that was best. Well, then fall hit 1 months later and we had to go to potty matts as her only source do to her not being able to tolerate the cold she took fairly well to them, you know she had the normal confession due to the switch but did ok. Well know it has been 2 1/2 months and it is frustrating 90% of the time she goes on the potty matt but the other 10% she goes on the floor but the catcher is when she does go on the floor she knows she is not supposed to so she goes and sits on her matt till I find her mess and then she will leave her matt. Is this potty problem common. I have a hard time punishing her because she already knows its wrong so why does she do it then. |

| I don't know. Consistency is the answer and she hasn't had that. I'd say she does it because she can. You are going to have to either limit her area or watch her like a hawk until she learns. Yes. She knows better. You are right there. But she also got away with it, didn't she?

| We do watch her fairly closely. I failed to mention when she does go on the floor it is not in a nother room or hidden it is rate next to the matt like with in two or three inches. |

| Maybe she had to go really bad? hehe jk jk. BUT.. I know mine get most of the way on the pad, then they let go and miss the pad. It is frustrating, but like you, it only happens once in a while.

I would watch her like a hawk so you can catch her in the act and tell her "no" very firmly and put her on her pad and when she does go on the pad get really excited and make a big deal over it, lots of praise! You may need to revert back to whatever methods you used when you were first potty training her. Good luck!

| I know this isn't teaching them anything but I just put a couple more pads around the first pad to give her a little more room...I can't seem to discipline as she already feels embarassed enough to have to go in the house when its cold!! |

| I had a similar problem with Harley. He would pee outside, but he wouldn't poop. He did poop outside occasionally. When he pooped inside, he knew he didn't do the right thing. I decided he might be confused as to what I wanted him to do so I started rewarding him when he did it correctly. He still has a few accidents, but he is coming around!!!!

| How old is your baby? If she's getting 2-3 inches from the pad, then that's great, and she shouldn't be in trouble at all.. Heck, I have 4 of them that use the pee pads, and a lot of times, even the one going on 10 gets too close to the edge, but, they think they're hitting it, so I never get upset with them.. |

| It will all work out. You didn't know when your vet gave you that advice. Just give it time. Perhaps increasing the number of pads will help.

| I think this is a common problem for Yorkies. My Yorkie has been going all over the house ever since she was born even though we take her outside every 2 hours. I never had that problem with our Maltese. |

| Yorkies are extremely smart (maybe too smart, LOL) and I think with consistency and lot's of praise any yorkie (or furbaby for that matter) can be trained. My Bella has been completely potty trained to go outside since she was 5 months old (she's 10 months old now), it would have happened sooner but we got a little lax with the potty training too soon. The only form of discipline we've ever used with her is telling her "no". They're just like our skin kids, they need to be taught right from wrong and Bella really responds to praise which made things a lot easier.

| It happens. My Meka started off with potty pads at 9 wks. She's now 10 mo and does great 98% of the time. As a matter of fact, last night she pee'd & poo'd on the pad, however left a few pieces of poo right next to the pad... She too knows its wrong, because she hesitates to come to me when I call her to her "accidents". But, I remain consistant and talk to her....telling her NO POTTY ON THE FLOOR and redirecting her to her pad. They'll get it... just takes patience and lots of spot cleaner...lol
