| eating own pooh My little yorkie is 9 weeks old and I've had him for 2 weeks now. This is my first dog, so all these experiences are brand new to me. Lately, I've noticed that he likes to pooh privately, when I'm not cowering over him. He usually does this in the bathroom on the newspaper/pee pad. The last few days, I've noticed that his pooh has been manipulated and usually catch him sniffing at it. I haven't caught him, but I'm almost positive that he's eating his pooh. Is this normal? How do I stop him from continuing this bad habit. Also, what is out there to successfully clean his teeth? Thanks, Rajah's pop. |

| I think all puppies go through a stage of eating the poo, Otis did it for a while but I would always tell him no everytime I saw him doing it. I have been told that the reason they do it is the food they eat if it doesn't have alot of by products and other things in it, basically it is all normal and as it gets older it will stop. As far as something to clean the teeth, maybe someone else could help you because I don't know and need help also with that one..

| sometimes the food hasnot digested properly and the smell of the poo smells like food to them, so they go ahead and eat it again. someone suggested meat tenderizer being mixed in with the food this helps it breakdown the food a little better in the tummy. But i think all pups go through this and sometimes it will just pass normally and sometimes they need a little nudge like with the aid of the tenderizer. Also, when you catch him in the actyou have to clap your hands and give a firm NO so they know that it is not a good thing to eat their own poo! |
