| crate training/potty training.. I have my yorkie who is 2 months old a little over a week now. This is my first dog and let me tell you he is a lot of responsibility. I have a few questions.. When is it optimal to start potty training outside. I'm reluctant to simply b/c of fear of contracting something. I'd like to wait till he received is parvo shots before he starts pottying outside but I don't want to loose time and have him get use to pee pad training. He's peeing/pooping maybe 75% of the time on pee pads. At night I leave him in the bathroom that is is baby gated to the bedroom with his crate door open. He generally sleeps through the night peeing/pooping once at night. Sometimes he misses. It seems he tends to pee/poop off the pad when he's upset or not ready for down time. Maybe I'm compulsive, but I tend to clean him after every poop/pee and replace the newspapers that are on the pee pad. Does this take away from training? aahh, so many questions.. I feel overwhelmed with this decision of getting the little guy. Thanks for any comments and suggestions in advance. |

| It is overwhelming at first but be patient and be consistant. I did not take Hannah outside to potty when I first got her either until she got her shots and until the weather warmed up. I have a new puppy too and I do not take her outside to potty either. She is too little to be int he cold weather and I don't want her to get cold. Hannah does both outside and pee pad now. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i got morgan when she was 12 weeks old and took her outside from the get go. I can't remember if she only had 1 or 2 of her booster shots. i carried her out to the same spot and didn't let her wander around.

| Outside should be safe as long as you have a place in your yard you can potty her that no other dogs have been. If not, I would wait until after her 4 mo. puppy shots. I don't change the pee pad after every use. I think it is important to have the pup's urine sent there so she will be more likely to pee in the same place. I do pick up the pooh ASAP.
