| Biting... Hi everyone! I am a newbie here. We have a 5 month puppy we got last week who is a Yorkie-Poo. He has been amazing! We've only had 2 accidents since we got him and the was the first night we had him. He does really well with our 14 month daughter and was raised around a 4 year old and a 10 month old before we got him. He's just been great...until about an hour ago when tried to bite me! He like showed his teeth and everything. lol He may be tiny, but it scared me to death because he's never showed any aggression like that! Of course after I told him NO and put him in the kitchen with the gate up I typed it in Google...and this is where it brought me. So, is this normal? And how do I stop it before it gets to the point where he actually bites? Help! I really love my little guy, so does my daughter and my boyfriend, but if he's always going to bite...it just scares me! |

| What was going on when he did this? Were you taking something from him, or was he eating?(Not that it's okay, I was just wondering the context.) He's the perfect age for training so that he sees you as the pack leader...I would get him to a good trainer immediately.

| What worked for me was saying in an extremely loud voice was "OUCH". It scared them, and then they went in time out.

| Well... your pups only 5 mo's so biting can be teething or playing. Whichever the case, you have to be firm when telling him NO when he does things like this. I let Meka play with me like that... And by saying Ouch, she will soften her bite, and if she's too hyper... then, I tell her NO firmly and she will stop. They dont know until you teach them Patience...

| Yes this needs to be stoped NOW! You are the boss/pack leader and that is not allowed to You,boyfriend/children. If you can't do it get someone that can. Sean. |

| same problem My 11-week girl also has the same problem. We put her in an exercise pen while we go to work, but everytime we come back, she goes into this frenzy and jumps up and down. When we put her out or play with her, she would playfully bite--that was okay and cute in the beginning, but her teeth are getting sharper and it's turning into a problem. We have tried saying a firm "no bite", puting her back in the pen as a punishment, or a high pitch/yelp sound, but so far the situation is not improving. Is it just a matter of time and patience, or should we try a different approach? |

| Same problem here. We have had Romeo for 2 months, he is 4 months old, and still a biting machine. I'ts gotten to the point if I yell ouch it just sets him right off. He runs around barking at me and comming after me even more. I know he's not being mean but it hurts. I've done the No!!!! thing, the time out thing, the ignore thing, the toy thing, the hold the nose thing, the pressure to the back of his mouth thing. He is so pig-headed. Well low and behold yesterday it finally sunk in. I think the little light in his head went off/ LOL. He still chews everything up. But at least not me. Wow what a haul. Right now he's trying to chew my sock off. LOL. I guess it just takes time. Now if I can just get my husband to follow through.Hang in there it does happen. |

| biting Here is how I dealt with this. If "no" or "ouch" doesn't work use either the spray bottle or the coin in cans method. The coin in cans works for us. If he gets too rambunctious shake the can and he will stop. If not immediately get him into submissive position (on his back or side). Hold him down and make sure he is completely still for a minute or two. Do not let go. Make sure they are NOT looking at you as you do this. This method has been working for us. |

| Biting It is so nice to know we are not the only ones. Fender has gotten so much worse in the past few days. We have tried everything that has been mentioned with no results. I guess we just need to be patient and know it will stop if we persist.

| What worked for me with raising Bandit was from day one I used to put my hands in his mouth and when ever I felt. He has never been snappy with me ot anybody. I cant say that my new arrival Bijou, he is aggressive when taking things even an EMPTY food bowl from his reach, he skins his gums and show teeth, I hold him in hte back of his head and say firmly NO and then put the item back for him. he still snaps, then I tap him on his mouth but not hard just a finger tap and firmly said NO, NO bite then he licked me, you have to try to get him to lick you all over, face, neck hands, fingers and be gentle. I think the mistake you may have made is allowed him to be Alfa, maybe he does not see you as Boss. If you are on the couch and he snaps to bite like that, it means you are IN HIS SPACE. maybe you should not reward him with this pleasure and make him EARN it. Try that Bandit is never allowed on my bed or furniture, ONLY when I authorize it. He dare not jump on those things, they are MINE and he must earn time o nthem when I authorize it. Be firm and take the lead of Alfa or he will rule you, small or big they try for that position. Last edited by soccbydo; 01-29-2008 at 01:22 AM. |
