| Advice on getting a 2nd Yorkie.... Can anyone give advice on adding another Yorkie to the household. My Kipper is almost 1yr old and he is soooo spoiled. I really want to get him a little sister to keep him occupied during the day when nobody is home, but I am afraid of how the training of the new pup will affect him. Kipper is no longer in the crate and has the living room and dining room available to him during the day. Do I keep them separated for the first few months and keep one upstairs and one downstairs until the new puppy is housebroken? It doesn't seem right to keep the new one in the crate and have Kipper alone downstairs!! I'm soooo confused!! Is there a chance that the new baby could learn from Kipper and be housebroken more quickly? Or will Kipper do a 360 and go back to being a puppy again and have accidents??? I sure hope not!! I don't know what to do... but I really want another YORKIE!!! Anyone have any stories to share???

| I first got my Maltese, Codie, and he was totally potty trained in about 1 month! It was amazing! Then I got my little terror ... umm, oops ... I mean Yorkie, Katie, and it was almost impossible to potty train her! It took me a long time and she had MANY accidents all over the house and even on my leather couch and on my bed - seriously. But during that time, Codie NEVER followed in her little foot steps and broke his training. He has never had an accident and is really fantastic about using his wee wee pads. Now my Katie is perfectly potty trained. But it did take patience on my part and CONSISTENCY. So I would recommend definitely getting another baby Yorkie - it's worth it!

| Oh! My mind is made up!! Kipper is getting a little sister for his first birthday next month!! Kipper trained in about a month too! He was sooo good!! I got him at 4mos old and I think he was partially paper trained anyway. Almost immediately he knew what to do when we went outside for potty time!! I just hope my little girl will be just as well trained. I have a friend who also had a female yorkie and she said it took her forever to train her, maybe the females take longer to potty train then the males? WHO KNOWS...

| I was asking the same question a few months ago and now I have another Yorkie. I keep the new one crated because he is a terrible two right now. Came home yeaterday and the little bugger had gotten out and chewed on the cord to my fan. The door latch isn't working too well so I put the front of it up against a bed before I left this morning. He hates it but for his safety I do it anyway. I do not regret getting him and having two is great!!! |

| I was in the same boat recently.. I have a little male diva that was about a year when I brought his sister/companion home. Tino was a potty training dream and I was sooo scared I was going to upset the apple cart. I kept them separated when I wasnt home just bc of safety issues mainly, but I used a ex pen and put her pad up against his since I knew that eventually they would be sharing. THese are some pics... Just another thing... you can expect your oldest to hate you and to pout incessantly for about a good week since he is spoiled and has been the only shild for a year. AND don't be suprised if they don't turn into "siblings" .... I just assumed this would be their relationship, but even though Tino is neutered and Bunny will be spayed... they are totally NOT big brother and little sister... its more like bossy wife and submissive husband that loves every minute of it! I can tell you that first week was H*LL and I was freaking out, but now they are IN LOVE and can't stand to be separated in different rooms! Good luck!

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Let me first say that two is ALWAYS better than one, esp. with Yorkies!!!! Now, when we got Sailor, Magic was 4 months old and we had first potty trained her, she was doing great and we were over the hump...as soon as we brought Sailor home Magic turned back into a baby...the very first night we had Sailor on the floor and Magic sat right beside her and peed on the floor...it took about a week and Magic realize that she wasn't leaving, she went back to her normal self, and her potty training returned...now they are good friends...they love to chase and wrestle with each other and the only time they are apart is when the sleep, they love each other now...I would just say to be prepared for a week or two of hard work but after that, the younger one just follows in the footsteps of the older one...Sailor was potty trained with a month or two!!! Good luck with your decision and finding a new little one....you are in for the double the fun!!!

| I have an eight month old Yorkie, and I just added a three month old toy poodle. They are both males and get along great. Oscar and Bingley constantly play together. Having two small dogs is a blast. Luckily Oscar is potty trained because I don't know if I could handle two untrained ones at once! |
