| More questions about my yorkie...need lots of answers! I know I have posted here before about behavioral issues with my now 11 month old female yorkie. The issues that I am having with her have been ongoing since I got her at about 3 months of age. I am posting because I am now at my wit's end with this dog and I am really about ready to give up on her. The first issue is potty training. She will pee and poop anywhere, even when I put puppy pads down. If I walk outside and don't take her with me she goes in my room and pees on my bed. I will let her out for a looong time and she comes back in and goes all over the place. Then when I leave her in ANY size crate she pees all over the place and soaks herself in it. She also has a thing about not wanting to poop in the grass, she poops on the porch instead. Also, if she thinks I am going to put her in her crate for the night or even if I so much as look at her the wrong way she pees all over herself or goes somewhere and pees out of spite. The next issue is the barking and whining. I usually put her in the laundry room at night so she won't soak herself. She whines alllll night even after getting her a bark collar. She has figured out how to manipulate the collar so she can let out this really high pitched yelp. The last issue is that she eats my daughter's poopy diapers. She will go dig them out of the trash and make an absolute MESS with them. It makes me sooo frustrated that she has to get a diaper of ALL things in the trash. I don't understand these habits that she has developed and I have no idea what to do about them. She seems like she's just a stupid dog. Can dogs really be mentally retarted? My two year old male yorkie has never been this terrible about anything! Pleeeease help!!!!!!!!!!! |

as for the peeing everywhere and stuff, maybe she is doing it for your attention? I very highly doubt she is stupid or retarded. That seems so cruel and such a harsh way to put it. At only 11mos old and ready to give up on her doesn't seem fair. she is still a puppy! I hope you are able to do what is right for her in the long run. Maybe rehoming her to someone who has faith in her would be a good idea.

| I have tried putting her in a crate beside the bed and she still whines and yaps the entire night. There is LITERALLY not one moment of silence. I have also tried letting her have run of the upstairs part of the house and she uses the bathroom everywhere and chews everything...even furniture. I can't just let her ruin everything I have because she wants free rein. I had no choice but to get her a bark collar because my neighbor's were fussing to the landlord about her constant barking. Everyone told me that would fix the problem. When I first got her, my vet even told me she was stupid and that I would be lucky to even GIVE her away. He said that some dogs are just mentally retarted and she was one of them. |

| Did your vet say she was retarded because she isnt housetraining? If so he must not know alot about small breeds because they are usually harder to potty train. You need to keep her confined to her crate. Dont give her free roam of the house

He also stated that because she was CKC registered and not AKC registered, that it was another reason she may be stupid. It doesn't matter where I keep her or where she is, she barks, pees, and poops all over herself. I have tried crate training. Please understand everyone I really do love her and pay her lots of attention. I do not mistreat her. It is just very frustrating that no matter that I try to do to help her, nothing does any good! She is driving me crazy!

| Seems that your very frustrated with your pup... and with that being said, maybe you should think about other options for her (i.e. rehoming her or dog training). It doesnt seem that you will have enough patience w/ the pup to teach her right from what she's doing wrong. So, if your not willing to allow someone else to help teach her, than maybe exploring the other option might be best. Please keep in mind the best interest of the pup as well as yourself & family

| I can tell you are just frustrated. She sounds like a dog that came from a puppymill that has to sit in its own waste all the time and gets used to it. I would keep he crate very clean so she knows the dfference. The registry that she comes from doesnt determine her intelligence. It doesnt make her any less of a dog because shes not AKC.

| its like that when you get a pup, what you need most out of all of this is patience, It ain't easy but it'll pay off, your pup is whining cause it doesn't wanna be lonely, after a few days/week they will get used to it, |

| My gosh, I am SHOCKED! What a terrible post, I understand your frustration but there is no need to speak so horribly about her. She is not stupid or mentally retarded she is a puppy who needs love, care and patience. Perhaps it would be best if you rehomed her to someone who was prepared to put the time and work into training her without using quick fixes. Not being AKC registered doesn't make her stupid! Pedigrees are about lineage, health testing and producing puppies that meet the breed standard, not intelligence! Sounds to me as if she is seriously stressed by her crate, perhaps she has had bad experiences with it, get rid of it. Puppy proof your home moving things she can eat or chew out of her reach. Take her to go potty as soon as she wakes up, after a play session, after she eats, after she drinks and at least once an hour. When she goes in the right place, gently tell her good girl and give her a treat you know she really loves. When she barks, let her, wait until she is quiet and then say 'quiet' and treat her, do this over and over until she is getting it, eventually you will be able to gently tell her to be quiet and she will be. She will never learn to behave in your house if you don't give her the chance to succeed. Praise the good behavior, ignore the bad. I guess the question you need to ask yourself is, are you right for this baby? Do you have the time, patience and love to train her? Can you be the owner that she deserves and needs so much?
