| Play time question I have a 9week old puppy. She is my first so I'm really unsure about a lot of things. I live in an apartment and I hardly take her outside much because I live on one of the highest floors. So her playtime would be in my living room. She plays with her toys for a good half hour to hour, and then starts to sniff around and then she'll lay down. Sometimes I'll run back and fourth to get her some exercise. I in the process of training her to do retrieving, but so far, is this enough? She sleeps a lot, is that due to boredom? |

| Yorkies are small creatures and do not need the exercise of a big dog. Bailey is the same way. He'll play for about 30 min. at a time and then take a nap. From all of the books I have read and posts on here your Yorkie will get plenty of exercise inside and doesn't need the area of a big dog. Heck, I can't even take Bailey for a walk to the mailboxes (1/2 block) without him panting on the way back.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali always seems to be up for 2 hours some of it playing some just chewing on something and the sleeps for 2 hours. She gets enough exercise in the house. The other day it was a little warmer here 40 degrees, so i took both my pom and Cali for a walk we got about 1 block away and I had to carry them both back!

| Mine also play for a bit then they lay down and sleep awhile. I use to think it was their growing stage but even the adults do this. And mine have doggie doors with a hugh fenced in yard, so they can come and go when they want until dark. |

| Thank you all for the info. I think I'm starting to worry too much about every little thing! It's nice to have reassurance. |

| She is just a little baby and will need to sleep a lot. It sounds like you are doing great with her, playing and training. As she gets older, she will need less naps.Keep up the good work, you are doing great. |

| Dogs sleep about 18 hours a day in between night time and naps they have. If she does not seem out of breath, don't worry. She is just a baby. Congratulations on your first dog. You will be just fine. You are in for a lot of fun times with your new companion. |

| I got my little boy at 8 weeks, he's 13 weeks now, and he sleeps a lot even though he has an older Yorkie to play with. They play together for about an hour and then he's pooped while she's still active. I think they jsut need the rest to grow. |
