YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Sunday Walk We saw a red winged blackbird - and that was the only bird life I saw! And there was this lovely park with a boardwalk over the wetlands and I wondered why no bird life/ I know that our winter was exceedingly cool as our spring is but heck what is going on? I try to get a pic and did not a very good one as one of my idiot friends behind me starting shouting out to our friend ahead and that bird took flight.

| Yesterday, but we saw no birds or critters, just neighbors coming and goes and Tibbe sniffed himself silly. When I first got him he was so hyper sometimes he would reverse sneeze and go wild every time he got out front but now he seems to just enjoy it like a vacation from home and walks along, once in a while stopping to sniff forever before moving on. Strange thing is, we came to a Fire Hydrant(freshly repainted) and I dutifully stopped to allow him to sniff all he wanted thinking that well-known "pee-post" would be scent-rich but he wasn't interested at all! He seemed way more interested in sniffing the edge of the grass all along the sidewalk.

| Took a drive out to Sultan Basin Recreation Area yesterday, very woodsy, hoping to find morel mushrooms. At one of our stops, a geocacher asked what kind of dog Zippy was, I rambled off the possibilities and he followed up with the best response: "So, he's an American!" LMAO We didn't find morels but we saw lots of different plants, some of which will have wonderful berries in the late summer. |

| I live near High Point State Park in NJ, and parts of the Appalacian trail. I love walking there with my babies, but I haven't taken Sunni yet. We do have a huge population of black bears which are sort of a problem, in some spots. For now I'm just going to safe places where there are lots of people around…but that still means country. Today, Sunni came shopping and to the office with me for a few minutes. They let me bring her into Lowes to get some spring cleaning things So that was all new for her..well, Lowes was…..there are a few random birds that are inside our lowes…they come from the Garden Center and sneak in and manage to spend the winter in there, lol. I really think she prefers walking in the city. She gets a ton of attention from everyone, lol. |

| Yesterday and today were the same route, up through the park on the trails, some gravel, some dirt and roots, less mud now with the better days. Heard some frogs yesterday, usually just hear them at night here. Today, I smelled a pungent odor after passing by a youngster in his 20s, thought that he had some of that wacky tobacky... I could still smell it way down the trail so I'm thinking a skunk moved in, I called Zippy in close. Lots of rabbits today as well. Zip in his new doo! | It's raining, I suited up a head out with Zip anyway.... Made it as far as the middle school track/field, kids had it occupied with a PE class so decided to cut the walk short, it was still raining after all! Saw some late blooming purple tulips that were striking. Yesterday, had Zip and our new pup Louie out for a walk. He did pretty good for being about 4 months old. Everything, in his mouth! LOL By the end of the walk, he had the routine down and was "tailing" Zip very closely and at a decent clip. |

| We try to get to the dog park as much as possible. The park has a small dog, off leash area so they get exercise but I don't. Usually we pull in to the barking lot (with these two crazies barking like mad and go right in the gate to the area). Yesterday I decided I needed exercise too. So I parked in the baseball field lot and walked over to the dog park. It's about 3/4 of a mile each way. Guess what I saw this morning? A tick on Bubba. Luckily, it had not attached yet.

| Ouch on the tick showing up so early! Love the video of your pups! I also like that leash in the video! Had the 3 dogs out walking the park today, on leash since we saw a beautiful owl yesterday, but 3 separate leashes were a bit of a hand full. Zip and I headed out hunting for morel mushrooms Wed afternoon and returned the wee hours of Sat morning, a camping trip with a purpose in the Cascades basically. So Zip and I hiked around hillsides for a few days hunting up and down the slopes of areas that had forest fires last Aug or Sept. Lots of ash and new growth, mostly the forest floor was burned with the ponderosa pine canopy still intact. It actually looked like in a few years mostly it'll look park like, with the underbrush cleared out and some new greenery coming in until, years later, the tree canopy matures and blocks the sun from the forest floor. Zip was enthusiastic each and every trip into the woods and there were lots of trips trying to locate morels and later actually picking some. Ended up with 2 gallons of the tasty morsels, not bad for the first successful trip! Our first day home Zippy slept all day while I cleaned, cooked and dried our new found treasure. Sunday and today, he's like a brand new dog with more zest and zeal than he's ever had. He's been a very happy dog the last 5 months we've had him, this trip seems to brought his enthusiasm to a brand new level. Last edited by MarkFromSea; 05-04-2015 at 02:46 PM. |

| Sounds like you and Zippy are having a great time on your adventures. Nice looking Morrells. I'm visiting my daughter in Belleview this week and walked 3.5 miles on the Lake to Lake Trail today and yesterday but rain is project for tomorrow. My pups are home in NJ but I had my daughters Great Dane with me. I'm so not use to walking big dogs!

| Zippy and I are still making our daily walks plus we made another 3 day trip for morels in E WA a week ago. On this trip to the woods when he cornered a squirrel or chipmunk up a tree or in a pile of boulders, I just let him bark and act nutty like a free dog. He had a blast! The last trip, I had kept him closer at all times. I took a lot fewer pictures but we ended up scoring 13 pounds of "burn" morels, I believe it's one of these four species "Morchella capitata is one of four species of wildfire-adapted morel in western North America, the others being M. septimelata, M. sextelata, and M. tomentosa" Morchella capitata - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Bummer, I set my phone for better quality pictures and they wouldn't download here. |

| Two weeks! I missed posting a lot of walks and another morel hunt. The last 3 day morel hunt we traveled to E WA to a burn that occurred last summer/fall. We hit the bonanza! 3 1/2 coolers of morels! Lots to see, an unusual number of frogs, a deer shed(antler), a lizard of some sort, a rabbit, and more squirrels for Zippy to chase up trees. We left the van early each morning and returned late each night. Hiked in a couple miles to the higher elevations of the hills and worked the intermittent burn areas. By the 3rd day, both of us were moving quite a bit slower than day one. Zippy has turned out to be a fun little buddy in the mountains hiking and hunting the slopes, ridges and draws. I still haven't been able to instill in him the desire to search for morels and point them out to me. LOL Today we, Zippy, Rambo and I, hit the lake trail, saw a dying raccoon near the trail and belly up perch in the lake. What's up with that?????? Other than that, it was a beauty of a walk through a ravine with a small stream in it. Saw about one inch fish in the stream. The first since this last Winter. Oh, the lake was glass smooth, a guy was doing touch and go's with an RC float plane, very cool! We saw an older yorkie following a ways behind their owner, poor old guy, at least he was out and about! Gucci is grounded until his mom lets him go out again. | There's a few photos here at a different forum. Oddly, the same looking format as YT. Morels - are you hunting for and finding any? (year, good) - Washington (WA) - City-Data Forum That worked pretty well! I'll just post reports over there and then bring the links over here. LOL there's more than one way to skin a cat when it comes to posting pictures! LOL Last edited by MarkFromSea; 05-28-2015 at 12:50 AM. |
