| A question if you have a pool.... Has your baby always loved/hated the pool? Has anyone had success getting their pups from hating the pool to loving it? I took Layla in today- we went slow, got used to the water- she hated every minute. She was clawing at me and just wanted out. She has a little life jacket and still hates it. Any suggestions? |

| Don't have any suggestions for you, all 4 of mine hate our pool also. So I just don't bother with making them go in the water, I just let them run around in the fenced area if I am in the pool.

| At my last house, I had in inground fiberglass pool and my previous yorkie, Chelsea, LOVED it. She never liked to go in it by herself, as some dogs do, but she loved being in it if me and/or the kids were in it. Probably the first dozen times she went in, I just held her...then I'd set her a foot or two away from me & she'd swim toward me. Next thing you know, she was swimming all over the pool. At my new house, I'm not yet sure I want to commit to another inground pool now that my kids are both at college, so I bought one of those Intex Ultra-Frame above-ground pools this past summer. ZoE does ok in it, but she doesn't love it. I think part of the problem is she swims to an edge & panics cos she can't get out. The old pool had built in steps and Chelsea knew to swim towards those to get out....and she just liked to walk along the top step if the water wasn't very warm. Just keep trying and hopefully your pup will grow to like being in the pool...if only to be with you

| I started Chewy by just taking him in and let him swim about 2 feet and then put him out of the pool. I did this about 5 times. I couldn't tell if he liked it or not but I didn't let him stay in. Then each time after that I would let him swim further.....by the end of pool season he begged to go out to the pool. I taught him where the steps were and to always swim to them. If I knew how to post video you could see how good he got at it. He jumps in by himself so he is never allowed on deck without me. |

| No pool plenty of lakes though. Gizmo will play in the water if he can touch bottom. He also wears his life jacket any time we are near water.

| Jackson's obsessed with water and pools. lol. He's always pretty much liked the water so no advice how to get a water-hating dog to love it. Didn't try out the swimming in the pool til he was 7 months, due to getting him in the winter time. His second summer was when he started diving by himself, but the lifejacket really helped him gain confidence. Now he doesn't even need nor want the jacket anymore. But I did introduce him really slow and at first I did use treats to coax him in....

| Ziva loves the pool! I wasn't expecting it because the big dog gets frantic when we put her in. Ziva hangs out on the little boogie board and can jump off, swim to the steps and get out by herself. |

| Jack doesn'rt want to get in, he just wants to bark at you while we are in. Josie likes to stand on steps, and we put her on a float to get her use to the water. But after a day of splashing alot, swimming, drinking too much pool water and her getting lethargic after getting out and rushing to ER, I haven't allowed her back in this year. She actually was okay (after she threw up) she just drank too much pool water. Start with a little small kiddie float. Float her around a few times and let her out. Then maybe take her a foot or two from the steps and put her in water and hold her there while she paddles. Take her out again. Do that a few times and then release her and let her swim to steps. I wanted to teach them if something were to happen and I wasn't out there where the steps are and how to get out. Mine is above ground. They would have no way of getting to pool if someone didn't physcially put them there. Mine has a deck around it with a lock fence and the deck meets my back porch. Only way they would be able to access it is if someone let them out back door. She will let you know if she likes it or not. I also bought one of those itty bitty round kiddie (blue) pool and I just put about a foot of water in it for them to get in and get wet. |

| Mrs. Beasley doesnt like the water very much. But if Molly (our Bloodhound, who loves the water and swims everyday - even in the winter) gets in and plays with me she starts to cry and will get in and come to me. We live on a farm and have a huge "pond" almost a lake. Molly just lives it. Mrs. Beasley really doesn't.

| We have four girls and so far our Maggie is the only one that really loves the pool. Here is a video of her last winter when we were in Palm Desert swimming and fetching her ball. I honestly wouldn't suggest a life jacket if you're right with them unless you're in a boat. I think it would restrict their natural ability to swim which they all have. All of my girls swim well but Maggie is the one that we just can't keep out of the pool. |

| My yorkie is loving the pool with his little life jacket! We took it slow at first too and you just got to give it time. When you are in the pool, try to get her attention and she should hesitate to go in. This means its a good sign that they are scared to go in, but really want to because you are in. Maybe get her favorite toy and throw it in so she will chase it. When I threw the ball in for my yorkie.....he always brings it back now and we even got him to jump off the deck for it! |

| Is it okay to let a 12 week old pup to get into the pool? Just holding her to let her get used to it? Never had a Yorkie before. Always big dogs. |
