I find it so amusing when I buy new toys for my guys. Even if I buy two of the same, they often end up fighting over the same one, so I gave up on that. Last time, I found a toy at Target that I thought would hold up AND they would like (that is usually the dilemma), and I bought one of them.
This particular toy is a green fat bone shaped stuffed toy with a rope running through the middle of it. The rope is a nice feature for tug of war and lets you get your hand in there without the chance for an accidental nip. Of course it has the obligatory squeaker sewn into it.
Anyhow, this particular toy has proven very popular. So much so, that after giving to them 2 hours ago, it’s not even up for fetching yet, instead it’s a coveted possession for keep away from each other and all humans. It's pathetic to listen to Ms Daisy crying as Mr. Gatsby hoards it in his "club house" (the area between the futon back and end when its in the sofa orientation). But when I intervene to give Ms Daisy a chance, Mr. Gatsby stares at it and barks, which is even more annoying than Daisy's cry of anguish.
What is it that these manufacturers in China coat their toys with that makes them so darn entertaining to our pets that a new toy can be so much more fun than the dozens of old ones sitting around the house, which seem virtually the same to us dumb humans, and serve as fun fetching toys but are not nearly so addictive as a successful new toy?
