He has maybe one accident per day, in our dining room carpet, always there.

I have a 9 month old yorkie which I am having a hard time potty training. We have done the potty pads, but she gets confused and thinks the house is the plan to go whenever, where ever. I am giving treats when she goes outside. My vet suggested kennel training her. I have a big kennel big enough for a boxer, but she still wets in there. She is home about 4-6 hours. I have read on the internet to use a 100 or 200 series. The 100 is way to small, so we got a 200 tonight. She can stand in and and turn around that's about it. She is a long yorkie and weighs about 6 #s

Hope someone can help!!! I have a 9 year old yorkie girl and I have a dog door so both yorkies can go out whenever nature calls, but I have the problem that my little girl whenever it rains or is just cold out side she starts going pee and poo in the house. I tried a litter box with dog litter, no luck, now I bought the pee pads with a spray to try and get her to go on that, still no luck...everytime I try and tell her to "go potty" by placing her on the pad she looks at me like I'm crazy, or like she is in trouble...

any suggestions? My carpet just can't take anymore accidents. thx!:(

I'm trying to teach my little baby to shake and I'm doing what I read on here, which is holding the treat in your fist. But all he is doing is trying to get at it with his mouth and when he's frustrated he'll go through all of the tricks that I've already taught him (like sit, down, roll) without me asking!
Help! How can I teach him this cute trick??

Sooo...I've had Nala a year and a half and thus far have trained her to go indoors on a wee wee pad. Not crazy about it, but I'm not a morning person, and it's difficult where I live to really walk her as often as she goes. It's convenient and she's pretty good at going to her little corner. I'm moving and want to try to retrain Nala to go outside because the downfall of training Nala indoors is that I have to constantly be at attention if I take her to someone else's house.

I want to hear from anyone that has trained their dogs in doors and know how you like it or don't like it. I also would like to hear from anyone that has been successful retraining their dogs to go outside after mainly being indoors.

Thanks

Potty Training Setup Suggestions

Ok...I tried to find answers to these questions but couldn't quite find any for my scenario. So, I'm picking up my boy on Friday. He's started on...

Ok...I tried to find answers to these questions but couldn't quite find any for my scenario. So, I'm picking up my boy on Friday. He's started on potty pads from the breeder. I intend on keeping him on the pads for right now.

At first I was going to gate him in the kitchen with the pads for his area to make accident clean up easier. I decided against this because there are some small spaces between appliances that worry me.

My next plan was a baby play pen/pack n play. I'm still up in the air about this one. I'm worried that the den instinct will be jeopardized because technically the whole pen would be his den. Even putting the pad on one side seems iffy because those things aren't that big.

My other plan is to put an xpen up in an unused dining room area in the apartment. This way he'd be where everyone is. But I'm weary about putting him on carpet just in case he makes an accident when I'm not there. It could be dried up by the time I find it. Any suggestions?

Also, where do I put the potty pad that he is to use? Ideally I'd want it in the bathroom or kitchen, but that seems like such a far walk for a little guy. Do I keep it close by his area? I understand crating and confining him when I can't watch him, but I want him to be able to come out and play and still have an area to go to.

Help? lol

Hi,

Hi,

I'm wondering if we should start the potty training all over again....? Our almost 5-month old Shorkie is great when it comes to poops. Thankfully, she gives clear signals and we can nearly always get her outside to make her poops, and we let her know how pleased we are. Yet peeing is another story. We're gone all day at work, so we have her in the kitchen (laminate flooring) with baby gates, and a pee pad. Initially she was doing pretty well. She'd have accidents, and we'd clean it up with "nature's miracle". But now she's having more and more accidents, and to me, she's basically turned the kitchen into her peeing-bathroom. It's gotten to the point where she just squats and goes. I think she only peed once or twice on the pad yesterday. All the other times where on the floor infront of the stove, the middle of the floor etc. We are so discouraged. Today we have her in her crate with food and water. Not sure what we'll find when we get home, but we had to contain her as she hasn't proven herself to roam free (in the kitchen).

Meanwhile I'm trying to find a mid-day dog walker. Our intent all along was to have her get a little older, and then begin crating her....letting her out at mid day with a dog walker, and then again once we got home, to really start potty training her. Money is kind of an issue so we were trying to wait a little longer, but now it's an "emergency"...we can't have her peeing in the kitchen all day, while we're gone.

In the meantime, should we buy a "play pen" and put food water and pee pad inside? I just wonder are we going too far backwards in doing that?

Bilbo and I are going to puppy class tomorrow evening. My sister invited us, so I don't have many details. What can I expect?

The class is being taught by the husband of one of her co-workers.

What type of lead and collar should I take? Do you think the halter will be okay? Bilbo is well-behaved on the halter and leash, so should I not worry about that?

What should I watch out for? I don't want someone mean, but I do need someone who is firm.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Help: bell training and pooping in house

Background: Milo is 1.5 years old. He was pee pad trained, but I've since transitioned him to pee outside (crate training) because I don't want to deal with pee pads anymore :p

So I've been teaching Milo to ring a bell to go pee using the steps listed here: How to Train Your Dog to Ring a Bell to Go Out | eHow.com

but I'm kind of stuck. He'll ring the bell if I'm standing by it (without me saying anything), but he never rings it completely on his own when I'm just watching TV or whatever....it defeats the purpose of a bell. How do I get him to ring it to tell me he needs to pee?

Also, he hasn't had any pee accidents in the house, but that's because I take him out every 4-5 hours and crate him when I can't watch him....but he poops inside the house :( he does poop on walks, but for some reason he doesn't let it all out. How do I fix this?

And a final question about crate training: when can I stop crating him completely? I've let him have free range of the apartment a couple times this week while I'm gone for a couple hours just as a test and both times I came home to find poop on the carpet :(
