No Longer a Member | Most Dog Friendly Country Hey all you Europe residents I was just wondering how dog friendly your countries are? In November I put in for my next assignment and I'm hoping to go to the UK but I also want to put some back up bases on the list just in case nothing is open for me in England. I want to live in a dog friendly city/country where there will be dog parks and lots of places I can bring Rizzo along and where I could find him a little sister or brother while I'm living there. I'd start searching now for a new little one, but he/she might only be a year old when traveling, and one of the two would have to ride cargo then again Rizzo may have to ride under the plane depending on airline regulations and where I go to. Pretty sure if I go to the UK and take a flight he'll have to go cargo, but maybe they'd keep him next to his big brother Fatso. Just looking for some input, if you've traveled around Europe and saw some great dog friendly places I'd love to hear about them. And if you absolutely love England I definately want to hear more about it, as it is top on my list of places to go to next Any thoughts on driving from Italy to England? I know I'd have to take a ferry from France, anyone ever do this before? Would they check the PETS paperwork before letting me on the boat, or when I get to the dock? So many questions, trust me I'll have thousands when I do get an assignment, lol! |

| Hi Deuse, I live in Greece and I just came back from a road trip to The Netherlands with my 2 little Yorkies. I even stayed in Ancona for a night. I never been in the UK with a dog because I don't know if they will quarantine the dogs. Any way I think that The Netherlands that I stayed for a month is the most dog friendly country in Europe. They have great big parks and dogs are allowed everywhere. In the parks in the cafes in the restaurants in the shops. Everywhere!!! Everybody loves dogs and everybody want's to pet them. As far as the ferry is concerned, don't worry dogs won't even know that they're traveling on a boat. I hope that you will be able to take your Yorkie with you. If you have any more questions, just ask Maria |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I am English but we now live in Hungary. The UK is very NOT pet friendly, hotels, shops, everywhere! Everywhere we go in mainland Europe is very different, very pet friendly, we go to Italy often and Csinibaba (pretty baby) has a ball, everyone makes a fuss, so maybe Germany & Italy (if you are in the military) would be better than UK |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | I have lived in England all my life. It all depends on where abouts in England you are moving to. I live in the northumberland, here there is alot of countryside so it is very pet friendly. Maybe in London or furthur South might not be so pet friendly as they are busier cities. True there are still lots of shops in the north, I usually take Poppy inside the shopping centres in her carrier and nobody has ever asked me to leave or anything like that. But it may be different in other parts of the country. So if you are moving to England I recommend the north. The UK has been virtually rabies free for the past 100 years, so there are lots of policies in place when bringing an animal into the UK. The good thing is that you dont have to put your pet in quarantine for 6 months before your trip anymore. But there will be paperwork. | England...the nation of dog lovers...not any more! I've lived in England, with lots of dogs, all my life. There are lots of regulations these days. There is still sometimes 6 months quarantine on entry. And not all of the North is that dog friendly, I know as I live there too, but not in Northumberland. I've visited Northumberland & agree it's better than some places but you still can't take them in places like the gardens at Annick Castle. The Lake District & north Lancs, my areas, are better than some but you still can't take dogs in most shops or any restaurants, though some pubs, not all, are more accomodating. |

No Longer a Member | Hmmm...very interesting, I'm glad you guys are letting me know I think I'll try for Germany then, it'll be easier anyway cause I can drive there, only 14 hours in a car with a meow-ey cat and a shaking dog. Lol. |

Shops I find have been okay aslong as Poppy is in her carrier, I doubt I would be allowed to walk her in. Certain pubs are okay with you taking your dog inside, usually old village pubs that dont serve food.
