Legges-Perthes disease Hi, I am a newbie to these forums and wanted to know whether anyone had experience of Legges-Perthes disease in their Yorkies. My 9 month old boy, Denzil, had his surgery for bi-lateral LP yesterday and is doing ok. The surgeon was very pleased with how the op went and is confident he will be fine, I went to see him today at Wanstead animal hospital and took him some chicken as he refused to eat the hospital food! It was heart-breaking to leave him as he started crying as I almost did myself, but we pick him up on Friday. If your Yorkie had this disease, how did he recover after surgery if he had to have it? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Regards, Tracy

Welcome! I don't have experience or advice with Legg-Perthes - but - if you do a search here on YT you will find lots and lots of info. I know a handful of babies have gone thru this.

Hi there and welcome to YT! My little girl had the surgery for Leggs Perthes when she was 7 mos. old. The surgery went fine. She is 2 yrs and 4 months now and seems to be doing ok. When she runs, she still holds that back leg up but she walks on it just fine. I give her supplements for her joints all the time now... I don't know how much it is helping but it certainly can't hurt. I hope Denzil heals quickly and is back to his regular self soon!

Hi TLC and Omega, Thanks for your replies, it was lovely of you to take the time to answer my post. I went to see Denzil last night and he cried when we left, which was heart-breaking to say the least. The vet called this morning to say he is OK but had been sick so they have upped his medication. He also said he may be able to come home tomorrow, which will be great! I will let you know what happens, Best wishes, Tracy
