| Yorkies in the UK compared with Yorkies in the US. Hi there It seems that Yorkies in the US are generally alot smaller than they are in the US although the breed standard is the same. Is this true? I ask because whether I see a yorkie out and about there are so much bigger than the ones I have seen on this site and on American TV and even the yorkies I have seen in the states!? I have never seen a small yorkie in real life in the UK. |

| One of the problems with the UK and US standards is that they do not have a minimum weight - they just say "under (or up to) 7 pounds". That leaves the door open for breeding way down in size to suit perceived demand/fashion which could cause whelping difficulties and health/genetic issues further down the road. There are some really tiny Yorkies in the UK and some of the smallest can be found on the public puppy sale websites. There are some tiny ones in the show ring. There may be some at Crufts, starting tomorrow. I seem to recall the Ozmillion line pups are still quite small, but the little ones do not seem to be as well favoured by the current crop of judges as the larger ones. |

I so agree w/ you But only bad breeders breed tiny dog (under 4lbs)... And, maybe, the judges not favoring the smaller dogs it's a way the tell breeders to keep their dogs in the 5-6 lbs range... | |

| I do think that the European Yorkies have a different look to them. Seems like they are a little more leggier and have a longer reach of neck. The heads are a little more terrierish. But talk about silk!!!!!!!!!!! As with here in the USA, it depends on the bloodlines also. I wonder if you see more "t-cups" here because there are more byb'rs and mills hear and more people are "in it" for the $$$? Just a thought. |

| we do not call them Toy here... they are part of the Toy group however there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie and if a breeder tells you that they sell them.. it's just a ploy to get more money for a tiny puppy |

| Some "breeders", and I use the term loosely, still call them teacups here and charge a lot of money for them. All these "size-ist" names for small breed dogs are merely an ad-man's concoction IMO Some people also like the "baby doll face" with a much shorter muzzle. I think that looks quite cute but it tends to be seen only on the really tiny ones. Last edited by Lorrie; 03-06-2008 at 12:54 AM. |

| can you tell what my baby is, Whenn i got him from a beeder near my home he told me Valentino was a teacup(small) yorkie and a docked tail. Since then i have found out loads of stuff about the breeder. tino is now fully grown and has got a bit longer in the body but still small i think. I got alot for horrible people on this site saying that there is not such thing as a teacup, but that is what i was yold when i got my baby boy. how can you tell what he is? hes 8 months and 3lb and nutty as hell .
