I've made liver treats in the past by cutting liver into strips & cooking them slowly in the oven till they dry out.
I just used to put them on a baking tray & leave them in when other stuff was cooking till they went all hard & dry .....the dogs loved them.

Oh your a fab mommy!!!! i wish i had thought of doing that, excellent idea. we get ham shanks in the butchers and they love them or else if we cooking ham we use the water from cooking these onto normal dog biscuits let them dry out and then let the babies attack!!!!! they go crazy for them. Just told my DH whats in a bully stick......... he said he couldnt watch a dog eat one, so thankfully we cant get them here!!!

Thanks for this idea and for letting me know about the 'bully sticks'.

The marrow is extremely high in fat and can cause diarrhea. Most Yorkies have such sensitive digestive systems and caution is needed here. I get the little round femur bones at Albertsons. They get them in every Thursday. Check with all your local grocery store butchers to see if they carry them.

Wow, I didn't know that the marrow was so high in fat - thanks for letting me know. I might have easily given some to my baby!! I will ask around for the femur bones. Thanks so much for the very useful information.

Thanks for this tip. I am going to try this as it may save me a small fortune in liver treats! I wonder how much you can give our little ones a day? How much do you give your dog?

I only give them a couple a day, just as special treats. They're quite rich & two of my Yorkies get the trots if I give them any more. It doesn't take much to give those two an upset tummy!
My bigger dogs can have more, no problems, they get them as training treats.

I do keep them in the fridge though, in a plastic box or bag, as although they're all dried out they are still liver & I don't want to risk them going off.

Well, I bought these chews for my little furbaby - she buried them immediately and has shown no further interest in them! I had such high hopes for gleaming white teeth!!

On the US site it seems that the Merrick flossies and bully chews go down a storm with their Yorkies, but we cannot get these in the UK and I haven't seen anything like them here either. I have seen on the US site, too, that there have been problems with the Greenies not agreeing with our Yorkies digestion and I also read that the Nylbone chews have been causing problems too. Just wish I could buy plain dried beef as a chew. Has anyone found something that their little ones enjoy and is not unhealthy.

You can get them in Germany, all they are is a dried stretched dehydrated bull's penis, all dogs love it. Germany is not that far from the UK

Thanks for the info on the dried, stretched bulls penises - think I will pass on this one. I just don't think I will be able to cope with watching my pretty little angel chew on a bull's penis - no matter how much she enjoys it.
