Does anyone else here live in London? I'm from New York but I live in London now with my Yorkie Fifi. I live in an apartment and I take Fifi across the street to the park so she can use the toilet. Recently a vixen has moved into the area. The past two nights when walking Fifi the fox has appeard from out of the blue. I try to wave my arms and scare her away, but this fox clearly isn't scared of me. She tries to approach Fifi. Today she was about five feet away when Ihad to grab my Fifi and run away. Fifi is usually wary of other dogs doesn't seem to be bothered by the fox's presence. Should I be worred? Do urban foxes eat yorkies? Thanks, Ana

I would definately keep her on her lead & just quietly avoid the fox. They won't usually attack an animal if a human is there, but there are always rogue ones. We get plagued by foxes quite a bit. I keep geese, ducks & hens & so need to guard against them. They might look cute & cuddly but they will kill just for the heck of it. It's a myth that they just kill one animal to eat, once they start killing a sort of blood lust seems to take hold & the end result can be awful. Even though all my birds are securely locked away before dusk,I've had them break into locked hen houses, leave all in there dead or dreadfully wounded, including tiny chicks, & just take one hen. We've had to be extra vigilant since the hunting ban, they've even taken some of my free range hens in broad daylight since that came in.

Forgot to say, I've heard of cats being killed by a fox & a Yorkie is no bigger so I'd avoid it. Vixens are worse than the males, especially if they have a litter to feed. There was even a report in the papers a year ago about one entering a house, the back door had been left open, & biting a baby sleeping on the sofa!

Hi slugmeister - welcome to the UK. Hope you are enjoying London. I would strongly advise you not to let that vixen get anywhere near your Yorkie. It is also not a good sign that the vixen is not scared of you. Normally a fox will dash off if it sees you. Maybe the London foxes are more tame than ours down here in Dorset but allow you to come within 5' of it is a bit of a worry. These foxes can carry all sorts of diseases. Don't be fooled by your little one not being frightened of the fox - it could definitely attack. Luv Franceen

if I where you I would take an air horn or a large bottle with stones on your walk. That way, if a fox comes near you then you can just give a quick blast or throw the bottle on the ground to spook it and it will probably develop a scare for humans! http://dsp.imageg.net/graphics/produ...97594p275w.jpg ^^ see link. Probably a bit of an extreme measure, but I wouldn't want to risk anything!
