Default How much?

How much does a yorkie female cost? She doesn't have to be registered.. I am looking to buy one for a good price.. I made a post already that I can't afford the $1000. dog.. Where in Ontario can I get a young female from the age of 5 months up to a year. I already talked to the very nice lady at T'N'T Breeders, but her beauties are to expensive for me.. It's a shame too as she has gorgeous babies..
If anyone can hook me up with my girl, I'd be so grateful..
Take Care,
Riddicks Mommy

hello fellow canadian.. i was in the same position as you.. i wanted a female but didn't want to pay over 1000.. i ended up going to the US... Ohio.. i got layla for 1000 US, when the exchange rate was very high.. so we only paid about 1200... i search far and wide in ontario but they were up around 1800 and mom and dad werent going for that... you might have to start looking in ths US too.. but there is a magazine called Dogs Canada you can get at PetSmart or Chapters with a list of breeders in the back and there are MANY yorkie breeders there... also try the web.. that's where i found layla good luck!

I don't really understand why but females are always a little more expensive than males. I don't have a female Yorkie but I got my precious male Yorkie puppy at 700 from Toronto because he is the last of the litter and is the biggest in the litter according to the breeder but when I saw him for the first time, I knew he is mine.

I bought Ollie in South Dakota for $850

Is there a reason you are set on a girl. little boys are very affectionate and usually less expensive

Good luck in your search! Sorry I don't know where you would find a dog for that price...I searched for months through dozens of breeders in Ontario and they all seem to be selling females from $1500-$2000. Boys are a few hundred cheaper. If you find a breeder who is selling quality pups at a more reasonable price in ON, please let us know!

Hey.

If you are concerned about money. Buying from the cheapest breeder is nothing but trouble. No good breeder who cares about their pups is going to sell them "cheap." They are a certain price to recoop the cost of health testing, vet visits, good quality dog food, showing the "parents" and other dogs in the familial lines to ensure that the offspring will be in conformation with the breed standard etc. Even with $1000 price tag, a good breeder makes nothing from their pups. They breed for the love of the breed, to try to perfect the familial lines etc.

Soooo, a breeder who sells pups for cheap is obviously not doing something that they should, or they wouldn't be able to sell cheap.

So, anyways, I don't know where in Ontario you are, but doing a few hours of research on the internet would be a good idea. I have found countless yorkies for adoption by rescues. They are in desperate need of homes, and they are less expensive. That would be your best bet.

Good luck.

I agree with Yorkiedork. If you cannot afford to buy a quality bred dog, then look for an older one or a rescue. I bought a less expensive Yorkie. She wound up out of standard on at least 4 counts and had significant health problems which at least contributed to her early death. That was traumatic for our whole family. I made sure to do much more research before buying my last two. I paid $1200 and $1500 for them and they are probably worth more. In fact both breeders have now raised their prices to $1800 and up.

It takes a lot of time and $$$ for these breeders to ensure healthy puppies within standard. It takes a lot of money for owners to maintain these dogs period. A responsible dog owner has the means to take care of not only their purchase fee, but also vet visits (routine and prepared for emergencies), their heartworm, flea and tick medications, premium foods, cages, carriers, beds, harness, leash, bowls, pee pads, toys, chews, brush/comb, special shampoos/conditioners, trips to the groomer, ......and then we start spoiling them and it never ends...... Yorkies are expensive.

If you do find puppies for $400-600, ask the breeder some questions...what genetic and infectious disease testing was done on the mother and father? Are both parents within standard? Are there any genetic problems to be aware of in their pedigree. Can you see at least a 5 generation pedigree? These are not just things to know for show dogs -- they are important to know for the person who will give their heart to the puppy and want it to be as healthy as possible. Another good resource are local vets -- I asked my vet and he had heard of both breeders I used and said he had only seen healthy puppies from them -- no problems at all. That meant a lot to me.

Save up, be prepared, do some research and find a good, healthy puppy you will love for a very long time! Good luck!

Default Please consider a rescue

I recently adopted our Bernie-bear from a rescue and it's the best thing I ever did. Because he is not a little pup, I was able to find out a lot about his personality and history, visit with him, etc. before I brought him home.

It's working out incredibly well and we get to feel extra good about giving him a forever home.

Ginger came from a "not-too-reputable" breeder. (that was before I found YT) The price was right at the time, and I LOVE my little girl to death. But she's had sooooo many minor health problems, I can't help wonder if I really "saved" any money when I purchased her.

I got spencer from a really nice lady at TLC Kennels in Chatham Ontario, she was very reasonible on the prices for her yorkies. I paid $800 for spencer. She has both male and female and I believe that both male and female were the same price, but I can't recall. If you are still interested in purchasing a yorkie once I find her buisiness card I can give you her number and you can call and talk to her. She's a very nice lady.
take care ashley and spencer
