YT 1000 Club Member | KiKi got collar "stuck" in her mouth She was playing with her collar and her bell...which I have attached to her the back of her collar and she got her chin wedged under her collar and into her mouth...well she started going crazy and I could not get it undone! The buckle part was inside her mouth....my husband was sitting there watching me struggle with her and I screamed at him "help me"!! He tried to help and it was no use, we could not undo it..so he got cutters and cut off her collar! I am just sick to think if this had happened when no one was home! I don't think I could make the collar any tighter...then it would be too tight! Has this happened to anyone else out there?

| I'm sorry to hear about the accident. I've read about that happening to others too. I decided even before I had Littlest Mac - he does not wear any collar type item and since their tracheas are so sensitive I have a gentle harness for him when he goes outside. I can actually (but rarely do) pick him up by the leash when he has his harness on. Littlest Mac only wears his harness outside, his clothing (only when I'm around to supervise) or he goes naked! Which he likes best. I hope your little one feels better soon.

YT 1000 Club Member | It was so scary...I am just grateful that I was home! She has been wearing a collar since she was 12 weeks old and she is now 7 months old. She is so little at 2.8 lbs that she really needs to wear a bell on her so that we know where she is, so she does not get stepped on. I use a harness for her when we go out..but she always had the collar on...now I am not sure what to do...

| I don't like collars for that very reason. It's scary. I used to have one on Epsilon and my Schnauzer would sometimes grab it when playing. He doesn't wear it anymore. Maybe you can have her wear clothes during the day when you're home and attach a bell to them somehow? Does she wear bows? I be you can get someone to make you some pretty bows with a little bell in the middle! |

My hubby said (jokingly) to pierce her ears and put mini bells on her ears! I said not funny!

| Abbey only wears a harness when I take her out. If it is left on inside, she does play with it and manages to get it in her mouth. Somehow, she is able to get it out herself. Come to think of it, everything manages to get in her mouth..I really have to keep an eye on her.

| I keep Oliver and Brooklyn collar free now too, since i found Brooklyn grabbing Oliver by the collar. When we go out to walk they are in a harness.

| Deegan only wears a harness when we are out. Even though he is a bigger yorkie (7.8lbs). I just felt it was safer when he was smaller for him to wear a harness vs a collar because of the trachea thing, but also because my cousins dog got his collar caught on a pile of wood in their backyard behind the shed when he was very young and they couldn't find him for 2 hours!! You just never know what they might get caught or stuck on, so I like to play it safe.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | How scary. I don't use collars but do worry should they ever get out they would have no tags on. glad KiKi is ok.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Hi There Friend, This did happened to my last yorkie girl when she was just a puppy, we had her tied up just off the step ,we were close by and I was checking on her all the time.I noticed that she had something in her mouth , so I looked closer and noticed it was her collar, she had partially pulled it somehow over her head and it was stuck between the back of her head and the inside of her mouth.....I freaked...we were able to undo it....needless to say, she was never tied out again and the only time we put a collar on her was to bring her for a walk. Same with Beatrice, we only put her harness on her if she's in her bag, so I can attach her to the ring inside the bag, or when we take her out, it scares me too much to leave them alone with anything on them, even a t-sirt or other clothing.Maybe I'm overly paranoid ?? |

I use a harness for walks and for attaching her tether on the bike or her carrier

| I feel the same way about Lily. She is so small that I like for her to have a bell on. I use the break away cat collars on her. I don't use it for walking of course, but I do keep an Id tag on it for back up. She got it caught in her mouth once when she and Dixie were playing and it just popped right off! I definitely recommend you try one. Here is a place I love to get them at. They are satin so their hair does not matte and I love the rhinestones! Bella Kitty

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | The bell is a great idea, for being aware of where she is.They are so quiet that you don't even hear them walk.....even on the wood floor !! I have a question for you: Has your little one ever had dry flakey patches of skin on her that are itchy? Beatrice has quite a few dry flakey patches on her left side, that seem to be itchy. It seems I remember something similar with my other yorkie way back.I read on one of the forums about washing them with tea tree shampoo and using a good moisturizing conditioner. Also feeding fish oil...tell me if you have any ideas....thanks |
