| Say No To Ca. Bill Ab1634 [F][/FONT] This is IMPORTANT to all dog owners and breeders, Do a google or yahoo search on this AB1634. They are trying to make it a LAW in California that all dogs of a certain age MUST be spay or netured. This would also effect all WORKING DOGS ( sight, hearing, search, police,) This law must not be passed, it will only drive the dog market underground/black market $$$$. Passing this bill AB1634 will only bring and create more bad breeders. WRITE WRITE WRITE your congress tell them NO NO NO NO TO AB1634 It will effect all of us. It will be California today more states tomorrow. GO TO www.saveourdogs.net This is just the start. This effects ALL dog owners and breeders !!!! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'd have to hear some opposing opinions about this first - bc I can see some real benefits to this type of law. One of my personal hopes for animals is that they ARE spayed/neutered by law, and that the only unaltered animals would be allowed to approved, inspected, cruelty free breeders. And...my ultimate hope that someday, we can abolish these horrible breeders out there. Whether this law is a step toward one direction or the other needs to be debated.

| I just signed the petition. This is one of the most ridiculous laws I have ever seen. The government has no right telling you that you have to spay or neuter your pet. The law says that all dogs must be spayed/neutered by four months. That is too early for some dogs. Besides, it has been proven that for most males to be neutered it is more of a health risk then a benefit. It also says that you can't breed most working dogs/leader dogs for the blind. Where are they going to get new ones? My Yorkie is 6 and she is not spayed. Why would they want to pick on the one pet owner that has made a decision not to have their pet altered? I'm sure through all this pet stores can continue to sell puppies from mills if they have them shipped in from other states and they are altered. I think I'll stay in Michigan and hope it doesn't spread here. Am I missing something?

| Hi! I am new to YT and was just browsing through some of the forums when I came across this one. I think this law is ridiculous! I am new to breeding Yorkies but my family has been breeding Poms for years! We have always had a waiting list, with people wanting one of our Poms. None of our pups have ever ended up in the pound, and have all been very healthy! I think if this law passes, and starts to branch out to other state then the quality of purebreds will suffer. Inbreeding will become much more likely. Plus the law states that all licensed breeders have to breed pure breeds. So there goes all those adorable mix breed pups! Yes, I believe that there needs something to be done to help with pet over population, but I don't believe that this is the answer. I believe that if the government wants to control such things they should fund free or very low cost spay & neuter clinics around the state. Most people I know can afford and do have their dogs spayed or neutered. I believe most unwanted pups come from people whom dearly want a dog but can't afford to spay or neuter their pet. I would probably even support this bill if it were for all unpapered or mix breed dogs. We would still be able to preserve the quality of all breeds and there will always be someone out there that would have two purebreds to keep those adorable mix breeds around. They'd probably even develope a market for mix breed pups! I am sure that if this bill passes that I will be the first to get a fine for my Yorkies! |

| NO on bill AB 1634 I know up here, and in most Cities in the North, there are limits on how many dogs or cats you can have. Here it is 3 or you must get a kennel license $$$. Sacramento is also 3. They will fine you for anything more than that, plus take the extra animals. Have heard that there cities that the limit is 2. AB1634 opens the door for dog police to be knocking on your door, and your town to charge more in fees |

| Ab 1634 REMEMBER if it PASSES in California, PETA and HSUS will be using CA AB 1634 as model legislation for YOUR STATE NEXT YEAR. This is not just about the right to own the Pet of your choice it is about the INSIDIOUS EROSION OF CIVIL LIBERTIES and PROPERTY RIGHTS. It is about the NANNY GOVERNMENT (city/county/state/federal) telling AMERICAN CITIZENS WE ARE NOT SMART ENOUGH to CONTROL OUR OWN LIVES. Do you want to buy your next pet on the net, over the phone, out of state, from a puppy mill? This is what will happen. Check out Petpac.net Do you want the Goverment telling you when to spay/neuter your dog? Yorkies are small, and it is not good to fix them at 4 months of age. I show dogs, and they must be intac to show, and I possibly won't know if I have a show quality dog until it is 12 months old or older. I can keep my girls from being bred! This bill is about Suzy, who thinks it is cute to have a litter or she doesn't know about a female being in season. Or the lady I met, who said she kept getting barn cats, and they kept missing. When asked if she fixed them, she said no. The neighbors probably took them to the pound cause the cats were hungry, or the cats were being pest by spraying all over their house. Irresponsible pet owners are the problem! But because of them, they are trying to pass a STATE WIDE BILL, THAT would hurt the responsible breeders in this state. This isn't right! |

| No on CA's bill AB1634 The following is a sample of what you could send to your Senator. To find who your senator is go to the following site, type in your street and zip, and your senator will come up. You can also find this on the AKC.org web site. WE HAVE TO FIGHT THIS BILL, AND NEED YOUR HELP! http://192.234.213.69/lmapsearch/framepage.asp The Honorable (name) California State Senate State Capitol Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: Oppose AB 1634 as Amended May 31st Dear Senator __________: I am writing you today because I am concerned about Assembly Bill 1634, a measure that would require mandatory spaying/neutering of dogs and cats over four months of age unless the owner qualifies for and purchases an intact animal permit. I am a responsible dog owner (and or breeder) and I oppose this legislation. (Personalize here – tell about yourself as a dog owner, breeder and fancier. How many years have you been involved with dogs? What breeds have you owned or shown? Do you compete in any other activities with your dog – Obedience, Rally, Agility…Have any of your dogs achieved a Championship? Won a prestigious award? Please describe the money you spend when traveling to shows. Do you spend money in hotels, for gas, eat out at restaurants? Details the money you spent in the last few years. Let them know where the shows were that you attended and what businesses you impacted. Breeders - Details the steps you take when preparing to breed/whelp a litter – applicable health testing, evaluation of breeding stock, training, etc…How much money do you invest in these things? How do you work with puppy purchasers to ensure they will be responsible owners? Do you encourage CGC or obedience training? Do you remain in contact with the new owners?) Mandatory spay/neuter is an ineffective solution to animal control problems because it fails to address the heart of the issue—irresponsible ownership. These laws are extremely difficult to enforce and can be evaded by irresponsible animal owners by not licensing their pets. It will hurt responsible breeders like me who raise healthy, well cared-for dogs and work to ensure that these puppies are placed with responsible owners. Passage of AB 1634 will make it almost impossible for Californians to obtain pets locally from responsible California breeders. Responsible owners who are already complying with local animal control laws will be unfairly punished by AB 1634, while irresponsible owners will continue to make problems for the community and local shelters. Concentrating animal control efforts on dogs whose behavior demonstrates that they are a problem for the community would be a much better use of taxpayer funds. I respectfully ask that you support responsible owners and breeders by opposing AB 1634. Sincerely, John Smith 1234 Main Street Los Angeles, CA |

| Ab 1634 My feelings are, people are upset, wheather they have dogs or cats or no animals. The bottom line is always money. Sacramento is building a huge multi million dollar animal shelter. If this law go through, they won't need it. Just wonder how many animals are taken to the shelters to have the animal put down, because of sickness or old age. I know that I have had to have some dogs put down because of sickness/cancer and old age. |
