Donating YT 500 Club Member | Anyone in the Roseville, Auburn, Grass Valley, Rocklin, Sacramento area? (CA) I'm looking to make some friends with people in my area, but I am having trouble locating any posts of people from where I am from. I'd love to make some friends of people in the area, and if we get enough interest perhaps we can start a new Yorkshire terrier group meet up at a local dog park or something. Clyde and Dexter look forward to your replies! Anyone Interested? |

| What a cutie!! I'm not up there, but I have family in Rocklin and Granite Bay...but they don't have Yorkies, lol. Have you tried meetup.com? That's where I found my Yorkie group here. If not, go ahead and start one! Put up some flyers at the local pet stores, groomers and vets. You'll have people in no time!

I decided that it would be nice to start one closer to home that didn't have quiet so many members (Of course anyone is welcome to join), but I think a smaller play group where you could more easily keep track of your own dog during a play group and everything would be a lot easier to maintain! Also, I think it would be nice if it was completely welcome to everyone including the brothers and sisters of our Yorkshire terriers (other breed dogs). This Yorkshire terrier group specifically requested that only Yorkies come, but I thought to myself .... most people have other breeds of dogs too! I mean yes, the purpose of starting a Yorkshire terrier group is to meet other Yorkie owners and let our babies play together, but not every Yorkshire terrier owner only owns Yorkies. So I decided to take you advice and start a new play group for the breed and start advertising in local areas. I was hoping to find some people on here, but it looks like I'll have to do a little of my own searching =) which is fine with me. Thanks For the Advice! | |

| Oh that's great! And that's awesome that you are inviting their brothers and sisters. It's true about the other breeds. Zeus is the only dog we have, but growing up we always had multiple breeds. If you post the meetup.com link on here, I'll send it to my family in the area and see if they have any Yorkie friends! Just out of curiosity, did they say why you have to pay to join? Where's the money going to?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | They did not specify where the money would be going. The comments seemed to suggest that you're responsible for bringing your own treats and water. They also said that they meet up at a park, so I can't imagine they pay the property owner to meet at the park. The meet-up group said to find information as to what park and what time the group would be meeting you had to pay their $20 meet up fee. Granted, the fee only has to be paid once a year, but with 100+ members all paying $20 to be apart of the group ... that is a lot of money ... and they do not specify where the money goes! I'm debating on making a simple Facebook page or creating an actual website, but once I get everything settled I'll definitely post a link! I want to find a good dog park location that will be large enough to accommodate a play group meeting without disrupting anyone else who might be going to enjoy the park on their own personally. Once I get everything settled I'll post the link! =D |

| Sounds great! You can just make a group on meetup.com I don't think they charge anything to do that. That is funny and that's my initial reaction - where does the money go? I hope to a charity or something and not in pockets. Since you're heading this, some ideas of what our group does - we meet monthly at a local dog park at 5pm on Sundays. Come and go as you please. It's the small dog park area so there's always lots of other dogs there and there's never been a time when it's been too much. Then, every so often, we do "Urban Walks" by walking in a local downtown boutique area and we go to the dog store(s) nearby and have lunch on the patios. Of course we go to the main dog-friendly areas but if you have something like that, it'd be fun to do. Sometimes the dog stores will give discounts.

| I saw that meetup group that you are referring to. I agree that it is big. I live 45 minutes south of Sacramento, I would love to join your meetup.
