Donating YT 500 Club Member | I know many on here are very knowledgeable about Pancretitis and will be able to help you with this. I don't have personal experience with it myself but I know the fat in the dog food is what you are going to have to watch. I am sorry your baby is sick and I hope she starts feeling better soon.

| Pancreatitis can be life threatening. Usually high fat is a culprit but it is not known what other triggers can cause pancreatitis. I have a dog that has had two acute episodes of pancreatitis and he is on a very low fat home cooked diet for life. He also eats a prescription kibble food as a backup and that food is Royal Canin Gastrointestinal LowFat. Your dog may not have to have its diet changed due to one episode of pancreatitis. The first time Barney had it, he went back to his regular diet and had no issues for about 5 years and then he got it again so now he is on a strict diet. I don't think the white meat chicken breast would have triggered it, that is what my Barney eats and it is very low in fat. If you post this in sick and injured forum (or ask the moderator to move it) you will get additional responses.

| I am so sorry your baby is sick. Pancreatis can be terrible. I can't see how chicken mixed with her food would make her sick. I assume it was boiled chicken breast. I learned the hard way to make a change in their food you need to change it slowly and mix almost half and half. You have to make a slow change or it will make them sick. Kayla had blood in her stools because I didn't do it right. Hope this helps alittle bit. We live and learn. lol!! Our poor babies sometimes have to suffer for our mistakes and I feel like I make plenty of them. That surprises me about the chicken though because they usually can always eat it without it hurting them. Mine love chicken. Hopeing your baby gets well soon. |

| Hi and Welcome to YT! Sorry to hear about your pup... Yorkies are prone to having Pancreatitis. It's hard to say what food to feed because all pups are different. What sends one into an attack, another may thrive on. Cheese and 'rich' foods are usually the culprits, but some have problems if you even look at them sideways. Maybe Marley is sensitive to chicken... what did she eat prior to her first vomiting episode? And what are you feeding her now? Any treats, chews?

| My little Cricket had chronic pancreatitis. My vet explained once they get the disease, can be something that recurs throughout dogs life - even though you keep on special diet. He recommended the Royal Canine GI formula (I think someone else posted this food also). This did a good job of cutting down her pancreatitis issues. I am so sorry to hear you and your little one are also going through this. Please keep in touch on how she is doing. |

| Marley just came home from the hospital today and seems to be back to her happy self. she has been put on Prescription Died ID, her vet says that is the best. after reading so many things on yorkie talk, i really wonder how does one really know what is the best nutrition knowing that the vets make money from selling what they carry for retail. i am sure that a vet would probably not recommend something bad but i question some of their decisions. she was on innova and california natural with a little choped up white chicken meat with no skin. i did give her omega 3 liquid in her food and the vet said that was really bad since it was 100% fat. that confuses me because its all suppose to be good fat??? anyway i want to thank everyone for all the well wishes and hopefully we will not go thru this ever again. | Glad your little one is home and feeling better. Fish oil is good as far as lipids go (cholesterol count); however, It is pure fat that the pancreas has to digest, making it work Harder. I would stick to the diet prescribed to a T. Everytime I would Feel bad and deviate with Cricket, we would be back at the vet. Please keep in touch. |
