| Does anyone know of a good puppy socialization place in Irvine, Ca? In or around Irvine? I really want Biggie to get out and play with other puppies..he loves other dogs! I'm a full time student, so he spends a loooot of time with me and only me. I think he needs a new group of friends. I don't need a day care service because I'm home for most of the day..I just need a safe place to bring Biggie.. haha. Thanks! |

| AH Boo! I just moved out of Irvine in Dec. Are you an Anteater too? How old is your pup? If he has all his vaccinations, and full imunity, you can try the dog park. It's not too far from the UCI campus. Also... if you live near Harvard, and Barranca, there is a park there that a lot of people take their dogs to in the afternoon for a stroll.

He's 5 1/2 months. He's gotten all his vaccinations and all that. I live near the Albertsons near the ARC! There's a doggie park off Barranca? Cool!

| No, there's a park on Harvard near Barranca, a regular park, but a lot of people walk their dogs there. I use to live in the condos right before that on Harvard and Costero. The dog park is on Irvine Center Drive, I think. I'll have to look it up to make sure. Are you a VDC resident? I use to live there in the graduate housing when I first transfered there as an undergrad.

| The dog park is called, Central Bark Dog Park. Honestly, if your dog hasn't been socialized to other dogs, don't go there. Wait till he's older. Most dogs are very well behaved, but every once in a while there is one that raises hell. Your baby is better off going when he's a little older, and a little bigger. I highly recommend the park on Harvard and Barranca for a nice afternoon stroll. If you go after 6 pm, there will be a lot of people walking their dogs. Including some of Kaji's old friends. There are 2 brussels griffon, Monkeyin and Biggie Shorty that are hilarious! They loved playing with Kaji and Kaji loved playing with them. They were so gentle and fisky. They also have an enclosed baseball diamond. If you go mid-week, in the middle of the day, you can get that all to yourself. My friend and I use to meet up there and have the pups off leash playing fetch. They're completely safe in there. I have some pics of them romping around in the baseball field. I also have some old vids on my FB page of Kaji having fun at Central Bark. 3-17-10 Playdate.jpg3-17-10 Playdate 2.jpg3-17-10 Playdate 4.jpg

| I thought they didn't allow any kind of pet. People had dogs all the time, but they were all breaking the rules. I should have done the same. Check craigslist if you're serious about moving out there. You'll probably have to have roommates to make it affordable, which isn't always great.

| OH! The most affordable place I ever found was sharing a condo, which was about $650 a month and I had my own space because I rented the loft. There's quite a few of them. Since they are privately owned, not part of the Irvine Company like the rest of Irvine, you can negotiate the price with the owners, you don't need a parking permit for the complex, and the people in that area are really nice. There are so many dog people there. When I moved out in Dec, there were a lot of them that were vacant. The one I lived in went into foreclosure in Feb. Turns out the owner had stopped making his mortgage payments last March. Glad I moved out when I did!

Places like Parkwest and Columbia court are kiinnnddaaa cheap (if you have a roomie), and they allow yorkies.. except I've heard they're nasty and have roaches everywhere ): I'm going to be staying in Newport with some pals when school starts, so that'll be good for Biggs.

| We should re-name this the Anteater thread. My older brother, also an Anteater Alumni, lived in Parkwest, and swears it wasn't a dirty stink hole that people say it is today. I never did get to go see it so I don't know. I wanna move back there SOOO BAD. Kaji loved Bill Barber park. If I take him today he romps and is the happiest little dog in the world. I miss living there....
