New pet store in my hometown

I understand that a lot of pet stores source their puppies from puppy mills, but it doesn't mean that all of them do this. I just got tired of seeing people assume that all pet stores were the same; getting their puppies from mills.
Months later - sheesh! In case anyone reads this - I never said ALL pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills, I said MOST. I know this because I work part-time for the Humane Society, so unfortunately I know better than most who have responded to this post. And as far as having "breeder information" on a card by the puppies in the pet stores, we find that only a small percentage (I'm talking less than 3%) come from decent (not reputable) breeders. Most "breeders" who sell to pet stores are commonly called "backyard breeders", and let me tell you - NO backyard breeder I've seen has living conditions that are fit for even a cockroach!

In other words, I don't "ASSUME" that all pet stores are the same, because the majority of them ARE. Believe me, or don't believe me - I really don't care.

maybe they are puppy mill dogs most likely maybe they aren't but personally after all i have learned i would NOT even take a chance with a pet store puppy at all maybe because i just don't have extra money lying around to gamble with like that good luck finding a yorkie baby!

Angel Be an informed buyer

Kennels are just as bad. They keep them in those tiny cages all the time. It is best to buy from a breeder who has been doing it a long time, and knows their lines and breeds Yorkies ONLY!! And watch to make sure they dont have to many. Yorkies need lots of attention, if they have too many they are obviously being neglected. And always go to the premises to make sure you agree with their living conditions. You only want to support GOOD BREEDERS.
Good Luck!!

5.99 Are you serious like 5 dollars and 99 cents. What a deal. Or are you talking about the fee you had to pay to see the breeder info.

Talking let me rephrase

It will cost you $5.99 to look around. But they have alot of great dogs in differerent price ranges. And the more expensive doesnt mean better. I got my girl at a resonable price. There was lower & high priced but she was the perfect dog for me at a good fair price. $5.99 for a yorkie, get in line -right? lol lol lol

AND HOW DO U KNOW THE PUP WAS NOT 1800 TO BEGIN WITH AND THEY JUST WANT TO MAKE IT AS IF IT WAS 2200 And u are lucky to get the "managers discount" so really it is true most places get their dogs from a puppy mill so do ur research and it is best that u knowwhere ur doggies are coming from who is rasing them, what they eat were they sleep what they drink, where they play, ect, and if you can and get a puppy in california, from a breeder go and visit the breeder make sure u get to know where ur baby is coming from,

so please do ur research or else it will cost u ive seen it here on yt

hope u get one soon!

Looks like they have 4 different breeds (5 if you count toy and minature poodles separately and maybe 6 as there are two other dogs on the Bragging page that are not poodles, chi, griffons, or Yorkies ) at least 15 breeding adults and at least 15 puppies ready to go. Those are just the ones individually pictured -- from the kennel page, it looks like there may be a lot more. I got very sad looking at their "Our kennel" page. I just cannot understand dooming dogs to a caged life. I guess I am wondering how this is better than a petstore?

I am just stating that I am really happy with what I got. The breeder is very responsible and stand behind their puppy. I can call anytime I want and she even make sure eveything is fine with the puppy. There is nothing wrong having a cage. If you have many dogs you need a cage.

maybe someone should put you in a cage your whole life, maybe then you'll think about it.
If you are potty training your puppy, it is okay. and only for a couple hours at a time at most.
leaving your dog in a crate all day long while you are at work is animal cruelty! plan and simple.
If you have so many animals where you feel like you have to cage them, then you should not have that many animals. PERIOD!
I think someone should report this kennel to the ASPCA!!!
Yorkies are under attact by greedy people who only care about getting money!!!!
Help give them a voice against this kind of cruelty!

Great thing that you want to get a yorkie! They are the most amazing and loving companions that one can dream of!

I do commend you on Not buying the puppy that you fell in love with at the "pet store" though. The majority of all pet store puppies do come from all ranges of puppy mills (from backyard breeders to $$$ corporations) and I am sure you would not want to take a chance that your loving companion could have been massed breed and could possibly develop negative traits/health defects in the years to come, an unnecessary heartbreak...

Are you nearby San Francisco? I met a wonderful breeder there that I can recommend to you if you want

Remember, the best type of consumer is an Informed consumer!
