| Cost of spaying I have four Yorkies (Mom, Dad & two pups - 5 months). I called my vet to get an "estimate" on getting the two pups spayed and they called today and said it would be $434 each. I almost fell off my chair. I told the girl I thought that was expensive. I just had the Mom spayed back in Oct. 07, and it cost that much because she was pregnant again (very precocious male) and also older and had just had pups 2.5 months earlier. She told me I could skip the pre-op blood work ($69) and the IV fluids ($89)and that would reduce the cost. What have others paid for spaying their pups? I live in the San Fernando Valley, outside LA. Thanks for the info.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | With blood work and meds to come home it will cost me $270 or so in total at my vets and that is including her getting her rabies shot at the pre-op visit. I would check some place else. You definitely want the pre-op blood and the iv is necessary if you ask me because the baby needs to be hydrated seeing as they are not allowed food and water from 12 the night before.

| ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Those prices are ridiculous! I go to a very good Vet that only cost me 230 for spay, dentistry, teeth extractions, and micro-chipping and a few extras... I love this vet... she's so caring and she takes her time to talk to you if you have any concerns. I have had bad experiences with other vets.. so no more of them. I have been going to my current Vet for over 2 years now. She has the most ridiculously low prices ever. I also know there is a good Vet in LA with really cheap prices. My cousin's go to them and she told me they are good also. If you are willing to drive the extra miles, you can PM me for more information.

| Oh yeah! I'm not sure if I heard right, but my cousin told me their Vet do spay/neuter for only 50 dollars and that's including anesthesia. My vet charges 80 for anesthesia and 40 for spaying. I'm going to have to double-check with my cousin. Oh yeah, a lot of times my vet don't charge for check-ups/exams .

| Honesty, that is not expensive for abdominal surgery. If you trust your vet I would pay it. Ellie goes to a pricey vet (so people say but I think they are very fair). They just happen to do low cost spay/neuter. So the spay was $85 plus bloodwork. Then the pain meds and e-collar. If it wasn't for their low cost deal for this particular surgery though, I would expect to pay $350 or $400 minimum. This did include IV fluids too. I don't think they would do a surgery without. It isn't a good idea at all. Surgery is also done on heated surfaces there.
