We are also trying to get a Yorkie convention going for either next year or '09....If you do this in June I would love to come (I should be back by then lol!)

But then again:

Maybe July or august would be better?

The grapevine in July and August is ridiculously hot! How about sometime Mar-May?

Yes the GV is really hot in those months... I dont plan on doing Anything in those months because of the heat. Bakersfield is a Valley surrounded by mountains June at the Lake would be the best.

So this is what I am thinking..Depending on what other dates every1 comes up with.

Either the 1st weekend in June 2008

which will be 6-6-07 a friday, 6-7-07 is a Sat, and 6-8-07 is a sunday

or the 2nd weekend in June 2008

which will be 6-13-07 a friday, 6-14-07 is a Sat, and 6-15-07 is a sunday

Please let me know...

Also I am thinking about us having a Big BBQ, dog shows, prizes, having different events and information available ..

Letme know your thoughts

I need to know WHAT day the meeting in Kansas is on??

March or April would be best for me. I'm not sure that I will still be in LA in June. I may be in Europe. If June is when it's scheduled for then I will try my best to be here.

I don't go out to outdoor events in Bakersfield in June-september. To darn hot for me! I also think it would be too HOT for those not use to the heat and smog here in the valley. JMO... I vote for spring.

I just responded to your PM. Sorry I didn't get back to you on Wednesday, but I haven't been on here much with the holiday yesterday. The 2008 international meet-up is the weekend of June 21 (the 3rd weekend). We chose that weekend as it seemed to the be only weekend in June that worked for people with Father's Day being the 2nd weekend, and people expecting out of town company the 4th weekend in preparation for the 4th of July holiday the following weekend. Also, people complained that some schools are still in the 1st weekend of June (as some people are making this a family vacation and staying in KC for longer than just the meet-up activities), so we ended up with the 3rd weekend. Personally, I wouldn't be able to attend a CA meet-up in June since I'll already be spending the money to fly and stay in a hotel in KC in June. I couldn't take 2 trips like that in a month!!!

See the international thread...

2008 YT MEETUP Update!

It seems like most of the votes here are for the spring. What about March? That would be long before the heat comes and should be pleasant temps...right? Either that, or I think the fall would be nice. Maybe late October?

I have to agree with Lisa here. The Big YT Meetup being in June is a major event, and I don't think we could reasonably expect to see many people willing to attend both meetups due to the time/travel/money/energy involved. That combined with the fact that even June in the central part of CA is still pretty hot and yucky. I think the weather and the timing factor would be much better during the spring.

fwiw,

I would vote for October here in CA especially if many of us want to go the get together in KS City in June.

How many of you in So Cal are planning on going to the KC meet-up? I'm seriously considering it and was wondering what airline you are planning on flying with.

The So Cal meet-up would be nice later in the year, especiall for the people planning on going to KC.

Looking forward to more info!

Corinne,

I'm not yet sure if I can go. I checked flights and they are all really high--like 5-600 roundtrip!! and that is looking this far in advance! I checked and it is about a 20-something hour drive... might be fine to share a ride or something...

As much as I LOVE road trips... I just can't take the time away from work (unless I win the lotto or I get a huge inheritance from a distant relative)...

Right now I'm planning on taking 2 week vacation to Japan in the Spring so the rest of the year will need to be one day here and there....

Boy that sound fun to drive all that way... But I'd want to stop at all the points of interest and we'll never get to KC on time!

Yeah I would LOVE to go on a road trip but that would take forever....I don't think I've ever driven farther than Phoenix, AZ or San Francisco, CA. I can't imagine driving that far. I already booked the hotel for arriving Thursday nite and leaving Sunday nite and I registered. I haven't booked a flight yet but I figure that can wait. I would be so fun to have a group of us from CA go. I can't wait. I've always only traveled to states on the borders of the US but now I'm starting to go inland...first to Tennessee next week and then to Missouri!

It took me 2 days to drive to CA when I moved, and that was with getting up EARLY on day 1, driving ALL day, spending the night in Gallop, New Mexico, and then I made it to CA by early evening the following day. It would be a long trip with furbabies that don't like being in the car!
