Do Not Go To This Vet In Socal! Hi everyone! I wouldn't normally write this, but I want to save other people from being "ripped off" by this vet hospital. Their name is Mission Vet aka Affordable Vet. Please do not go there. I was a vet tech from 99-05. Now Im an accountant. I took my 4 day old yorkie pup to this vet hospital to get her dewclaws removed and her tail docked. I had my pup sitting in the car with my boyfriend so that she wouldn't catch anything "floating" around. The receptionist told me he was ready for me to go in a room. I said, "are you sure because I don't want her just "waiting" around here". He said, "yes bring her in". I said ok. I bring her in and there is NOBODY at the desk for like 10 mins! I couldn't believe it! Then he puts me in a room (this is at 7:30 pm) just for the doctor to come in and tell me to leave her there til 10 pm! what! And to top it off, he said I had to call first to make sure she was ready to go home! I said, "are u crazy? You can't just have her go without milk for that long". He said, "trust your surgeon". I started to laugh and said, "trust my surgeon? I don't even know you, never heard of you and never worked with you before and I don't know your practices". So he takes her in the back and Im thinking about all of this. Well from working at the vet, I know that the bars on the cages are wide enough for my little 4 oz puppy to fit through! She's a squirmer too! So of course there is nobody at the desk again and Im getting worried about my little girl. So the receptionist comes back and just out of curiousity I ask how much? $86! They put Amoxi drops on there. There is no reason at all that my newborn should be on Amoxi drops. At the vet I worked at it was a rich area. We charged $16 for a small amoxi drops and $36 for a bigger one (for large breeds). They were charging me $32! Last year I took my 6 lab @ 3+lbs each to my vet (who retired this year ) and he charged me $72 for all of them for dewclaws removals. The stud owner I bred my Sassy with does all fo her dewclaws/tail docking herself. She's great but about 45 mins from me. So the RECEPTIONIST starts arguing with me saying that she doesn't know what she's doing and that the supplies cost $100 blah blah blah. I said, "she's been doing all of her litters for 20+ years and I've seen her work before, she's great at it". He made me furious! I told him to give me my dog back and I left! That place is dirty and in the ghetto! I was scared to even leave my car. I wish I never walked in there, but their website site made them sound like they were very clean and organized. Yea right! Please don't go there, tell your friends not to go there. Another thing that happened while I was there....(sorry this is so long, I just want to make my point across). A lady came in with a toy breed dog, not sure what it was though. Im thinking a maltese, but it was really big. Anyways, her dog had pups two weeks ago and she didn't give her dog any kind of supplement. So the dog was shaking and breathing really heavily. The doctor let the dog "wait" in the waiting room for at least 15 mins b4 doing anything w/her! He was just talking our ears off! The lady even said, "are u gonna work on my dog?" The doctor said that she needed calcium. He was going to put her on I.V./ringers (I.V = $18, Ringers= $36, where i worked @) to flush the calcium through her body. Calcium can't be all that much right? Well he was charging her $800 for that! I told her to go to this 24 hr vet a block away and she just paid it. And they kept her dog overnight. Im sure she had fun feeding those puppies So please please please tell your friends, tell everyone NOT to go to this vet. They have inexperienced people working there and the hospital is dirty! I came home, WASHED all of my puppy's blankets and changed my clothes quickly. I felt dirty just from being in there. I can't believe I took my dog there, I feel so guilty. Never again will I ever go there!

I don't know anything about tail docking and such, but I do know a 4 day old puppy cannot go without eating all day. Is this common to keep them, or do they usually just do it on the spot and send them home?

Sorry you and your puppy had such a bad experience. Hopefully somehow that vet practice will be shut down for some reason, so no one else or their dog will have to go thru what sounds like less than a ethical vet practice. Rudy & his mom (Dawn)

It took my vet about 10 minutes to do all five pups from my litter and he charged me $7.50 per pup. If I were you, I'd turn the vet in to the regulating board for veterinarians. Situations like this have got to stop.

I know this is an old thread but i'm looking at all of the reviews of different kennels and came across this.... Hey... I'm not trying to be rude or anything but i wanted to know why you say it's in the ghetto. i mean you say it's dirty and what ever but why do it have to be the ghetto. is it in the bad side of town? that still don't mean it's the ghetto. I know that's not was important but ..... i don't know... after seeing it was bad, why did you continue? even if your friend was far away it 'seemed' better than the vet you describe and wouldn't you want the best interest of the pup at heart (your friend who you trust) and not go to a random place that was nearest? | |
