| Judy Marksbury- Show Breeder My husband and I bought a 4 month old puppy from An AKC Show breeder, Judy Marksbury in Lanesville, IN. She and her husband run the Happy Tails Pet Resort. Happy Tails Pet Resort jamyorkies@aol.com She is the President of the Ohio Valley Yorkshire Terrier Club of Kentucky. Our puppy had yeast infections in both ears, Giardia, a severe bacterial eye infection in his left eye, due to Congenital Lacrimal Gland Aplasia. Our Vet consulted with an Ophthamologist at Purdue in West LaFayette, IN. So, we are using Tacrolimus drops twice a day, in an attempt to see if he has any tissue, that the drops might stimulate tear production. He has had 2 Schirmer tear tests, and has his 3rd one on 11/19. She misrepresented this puppy from the start. E-mailed me a picture of a beautiful female in full Show coat, labled gustos mom, and wrote, "I've attached a picture of mom". Later, found out she is not his Dam. In an e-mail, she claimed she is bad with pictures, and sent that picture by mistake, but a friend e-mailed her, pretending to be interested in buying my puppy's litter-mate, and the breeder e-mailed her the same picture. Stay away from this breeder! Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 01-27-2014 at 04:44 PM. Reason: Removed personal contact info |

| Sorry about your pup's condition...pray he'll be ok. Will he need surgery? Also added some tags for you.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sheila, I know how horrible your experience with this breeder has been. I keep you and Max in my prayers. He couldn't have ended up in a better home, but you didn't need the added stress. Hugs

The Opthamologist advised our Vet to try using Tacrolimus drops in his eyes, to see if there might be any tissue that the drops would stimulate tear production. He goes to the Vet for his 3rd Schirmer tear test on the 19th, but more than likely, he will need surgery.

He suffered for 4 months under her so-called care. And, he continues to suffer, twice a day, when we have to put the Tacrolimus drops in his eyes. The drops sting!!! Thank you for saying he couldn't have ended up in a better home. Thank you-please keep this precious little boy in your prayers.

| Wow...that's sad because on paper, she looks like she could be a good breeder. Did you find out about the bate and switch before or after you'd already purchased the puppy?? Did you get the pup with a health guarantee and/ or did she say she does health test her breeding stock? Have you contacted her to tell her about all of the health issues the pup has? If so, what was her response?? PS.... If the pups got this many problems at this young of an age, you may want to think about picking up pet insurance. I'll pray for this little guy~~ I am glad he's in good hands with you and your getting him the care he needs!! If he was with the breeder or had went to a family who didn't care or couldn't afford his vet bills, who knows what would have happened to him. You are saving this little guys life!! I didn't find out about the bate & switch, until my husband e-mailed her, and asked her about the name gustos mom on the picture she sent me, stating she is the Dam to the puppies. On her contract, there was one name, for Dam: Treasure, so my husband asked her, "gustos moms" name is Treasure, right? And she sent him a reply with a and said, "No, it is Treasure". He told her that she sent us a picture of gustos mom, etc. and she said, "Basically, you're calling me a liar". So, he forwarded her the e-mail. She and I exchanged many e-mails after we brought Max home. She said she had no idea that he had a problem with his eye. Claimed yeast infections are common because of all the hair. I beg to differ-each of my 3 Yorkies came from wonderful Show breeders over 30 years, and not one of my girls didn't have the hair removed from their ears. And her health guarantee is a replacement pup. I definitely told her about the diagnosis of Congenital Lacrimal Gland Aplasia, and she said she had never heard of it. She offered us the remaining female in the litter, but when my husband asked her if she'd had the puppy's eyes checked, ears checked for yeast infections, and if she'd had her checked for Giardia-she never responded. I e-mailed her yesterday, and she will only give us the female, and she will take Max back. Returning this sweet little boy to her is not an option. She allowed him to suffer. Thank you for you very kind words. We are going to do everything possible to help him keep his eye-sight. | |

| I am so sorry to read what Max and you are going through. Poor baby it's so sad that the drops sting his eyes. I hope things turn around for your sweet boy. I completely understand you not wanting to return him to an uncaring breeder. Lucky boy has you now looking out for him. Sending prayers and best wishes.

Thank you-I just pray so hard, that the drops will stimulate tear production and he won't need surgery. I feel so bad, when we have to put the drops in his eyes. I always give him a treat, after. Neither my husband or I could even consider returning him to his breeder, or shall I say, "greeder"? Thank you for your prayers and best wishes.

| I don't know if a replacement pup is standard practice, but I've heard of breeders offering this as a solution when things go bad. I am sure a lot of the breeders know that most people are not going to want to give their pup back...I am sure some of them are betting on this and it's a way to dump a dog and wiggle out of paying for it's problems. Besides..why would you want another dog out of the same litter with the same chance of the problems. It seems like a fairer way to go about it would be to offer replacement as an option, with the other option being to pay all or some of the vet bills or refund some or all of the money spent on the purchase of the pup.If the breeder gets the dog back, they are going to have to pay for the vet bills anyways!! Being that this person is involved in a breed club and showing in AKC, I wonder if there is any place you can report the breeder to...Maybe the YTCA or AKC itself?!? I know there's not as much you can do about BYB's or puppymills to effect them(other than try to shut them down), but I would think that someone like this breeder, who is involved, would care a lot about their reputation within the show/breeding community. Your name means a lot and I am sure it can make you or break you at times. Last edited by theporkieyorkie; 11-14-2013 at 05:45 PM. |

Each one, stressed the importance of my letting them know, if anything was wrong, because they didn't want to reproduce a health problem. But with many of todays breeders, a replacement puppy seems to be standard practice. Judy Marksbury told me, on the phone, that even though her contract stated that she didn't pay Vet bills, she would do so. Ha! And because I'd had such great breeders, and she is the President of the Ohio Valley Yorkshire Terrier Club of Kentucky-I was naive, and trusted her word. I contacted AKC, and they told me to file a complaint in writing, including the breeders name, address, and phone number, and include all of my puppy's test results. I don't know if they'll do anything, but if they don't do anything, word of mouth is going to destroy her. I intend to do a Blog on my google account, and on my Facebook account, and make them public.
