And yes I agree this breeder does seem to go the extra mile in order to present healthy, happy and well cared for dogs. But you say "4 of her yorkies greeted" you at the door. Did she say where the other 40 to 50 Yorkies live? According to AKC records this woman has owned or bred over 40 "breeding Yorkies" (see names below). So where are the others living? She also states she is a USDA licensed breeder. I can tell you USDA does not allow dogs to live in ones home. It will be and has been written up by the inspectors in the past. She does not give a health guarantee because maybe that could be a financial problem for her. She used to breed under the name Sugarhill Yorkies. See this website http://sugarhillyorkie.homestead.com/ I know her partners name also. So now she has branched out on her own for what reasons we do not know. i.e. bad inspections, animal cruelity, we just do not know these answers. But it is a common practice for puppy producers to move on to a different location or change their kennel name when found to be in valiation of some animal regulation. Not saying that's what happened in this case at all. Just bringing forth the possibility. Websites "can" be deceiving. I know because I spend a lot of time investigating puppy sellers' websites and exactly what is behind the "pretty pages". Sometimes it's not very pretty at all. I just do not think it's proper to put forth this breeder as a simple home breeder with 4 dogs. Maybe that's how she presented herself. The questions I ask are legitimate questions to ask about any breeder which deserve answers....in my humble opinion!

So where on her 30 acres do you suppose these Yorkshire Terriers live?
The names below were found in the AKC records (all names appeared in 2003 or 2004):

Congrats on your new baby...I hope you have many, many years of happiness with this amazing breed

Just as a note...Sammi's breeder was USDA registered as well..And when I first found that out last year I got very upset because RIGHT AWAY I assumed Sammi was from a mill (not that it made any difference, becuase I would love her regardless) so I had Kim from Nopuppymills.com check for me last year...then again this year...Her report to me is below...

ID 3439
Date Submitted 12/1/2005

Yorkie puppy purchased March 2004. No problems noted. Owner is concerned because she found the breeder on a list of licensed breeders by USDA and believes the breeder is 'bad.' USDA is required by law to license and inspect any breeder with more than 3 female breeding dogs, that is selling the puppies from those dogs to "wholesale" places, such as brokers and petshops. While many people believe that a breeder should take responsibility for the puppies they breed, and sell them themselves to ensure the puppies are going to good homes, it still does not mean that a USDA breeder is abusing or neglecting their dogs.

Please see the comments below, but also understand that I have never seen this breeder's facility so I can't say for sure how she treats her dogs. Also, My reports are a little outdated now and I have no idea how many dogs she might have now. Lastly, please know this is the EXCEPTION, not the rule. Most puppies come from facilities with an average of 100 breeding dogs, and over 50% of those facilities have violations listed by USDA. Even those that do not have violations, may be only meeting the 'minimum standards' set by USDA, which treats dogs like livestock, not like companion animals.

ID 2066
Date Submitted 11/10/2004

Yorkie puppy purchased March 2004. Puppy reported healthy. I show no violations at all on this breeder and show in 1999 she had only 9 adult breeding dogs. This is a very rare thing to find in commercial breeders and I can only hope I see more and more like them!

No, Cisco wasn't neutered. I found that a little odd too , about her having some of her pups neutered- wonder why that is??

I thought i had done my homework, but now y'all got me worried...
I know she had a clean home etc, and she had a kennel in the back of her house, i guess i should have asked to look at the kennel too?
I didn't know about the USDA either..

Default Rocky's Dad

We puchased a small yorkie from Fantasy Yorkies. We called and went to their home tp see the puppies that we available. We were met by three or four beautiful dogs. They were well groomed and trained. Shirley and her husband were great. They showed us two male puppies but my wife wanted a smaller puppie. e had just lost our beautiful female yorkie Lucy. Shirley brought Rocky to my wife and it was instant love. We purchased him but could not take him home until he was bigger. We visited him on two occasions and he was very clean and well cared for. After we got him our vet gave him a complete check-up and gave him a clean bill of health. He said that we had gotten him from a good breeder. We went back a couple of months later to pick up a new harness and leash and they asked that we bring Rocky with us. They are very concerned about their puppies and who gets them. Our Rocky is spoiled rotten, worse than Lucy was or our other yorkie pepper is. He is so full of life and our entire family loves him so much. He crawls up on my wife's shoulder and goes to sleep just like a baby. It is so easy to get off of track when talking about yorkies. In any case, Fantasy Yorkies gets an A plus from us.

Are you Fantasy Yorkies Rocky's Dad? How do you account for all the violations they have and the dozens of dogs they have?

Default Rocky's Dad

Yes, I am Rocky's Dad. And yes he came from Fantasy Yorkies. His father is Micky Bleau. He is 10 months old and is an ounce or two less than 4 pounds. He is spoiled rotten by the entire family. My daughter, grandsons, and my sisters in Kentucky all think he is the greatest. He has had check ups from our vet which is a personal friend of mine and was found to be healthy. There is no hidden kennel at Shirley and Ron's house. They have not changed locations. I think if you checked they don't have all of the dogs that you have listed. I know people that have purchased yorkies from them and they are as happy with their puppy as we are. I don't know what your problem is with them and it is not my business but I sure hope that Cisco's mom will do as I am doing and that is to enjoy my yorkie. Shirley and Ron have been outstanding with us and made every effort to provide us with a loving and healthy puppy.

I was just wondering if you were affiliated with them since your first and second (and only) posts were defending Fantasy Yorkies.

Default Rocky's Dad

The answer to yor personal qustion is no, I am not affiliated with Ron and Shirley. I have one yorkie that my best friend gave me and we had another , Lucy, that we lost last spring that came from my cousin in Kentucky. One of our friends purchased two puppies from Fantasy Yorkies and had nothing but praise about them. We were treated outstanding by the owners and I can assure you that the dogs they have are not treated like dogs in a puppy mill. I have no knowledge of any violations. As was stated earlier, anyone with three of more breeding dogs must register USDA. So, I am sorry to disappoint you but I am not worried in the least about our yorkie. He is awesome, full of energy and love and we make sure that he gets all of the love and caring he needs and wants. He was so easy to house train and he is so smart. I will finish this up because it is our play time( Racky and I).

I'm happy you had such a good experience also.
Cisco seems to be in a minority as a yorkie to how good he has taken to house training. He hardly ever misses a pad, and i have only had him 2 weeks.
He's got a wonderful personality. So thus far i am very happy with him.

I also considered purchasing from them. Unfortunately when I asked since they do not provide a health guarantee against hereditary conditions, if they at the least had their sires and dams tested for these, I received no reply. At that moment I realized they were not the ones to purchase my yorkie from. Their prices were about the same when purchasing from a different breeder with a one year guarantee.
