| beautifulpups.com ACA registered? Does anyone know what is considered a "registered Yorkshire Terrier". I found my puppy on her site and she stated that yes, the yorky was a registered Yorkshire Terrier. She cost me $950. After she drove the puppy to my house, she said I would receive the registration papers in about 6 weeks. So I thought, ok. Well yesterday I received them. They were for the American Canine Association. Does this mean my dog is not a purebread Yorkie and not worth that much money? I wouldn't trade her for the world but I feel cheated. Any comments appreciated. |

| The AKC registry, American Kennel Club is the more responsible one. Dishonest people can take advantage of nearly anyone anywhere and that includes even the AKC ,(but they have been around the longest in North America) and in certain situations, do try to go after breeders who break their many rules. So if you asked the person who you got your dog from if it was registered and she said yes.....she wasn't lying, just not saying what registry the pup was actualy with. That is not really your fault, until recently, I thought that the American Kennel Club was the only purebred dog registry. There are other dog registries that are the equivalent to the American Kennel Club, the Canadian Kennel Club and I think the UKC,(the British version of the American Kennel club). There are other organizations that register dogs that have simlar sounding names. In other words you may find a dog club with eihter the AKC, CKC or UKC initials, but they don't stand for the origional names and I do belive this is to take advantage of flolks who don't really know to what to ask except if the dog is registered. I'm sleepy now,if someone can explain that better, please do, I hope I didn't write that too confusingly. If you have some concerns, it may be harder to check out the parantage of your puppy. I am not familiar with the ACA. Check to see if they have a website and take a good look around it and get familiar with it. You can also check out the AKC website, you'll find lots of great info there too! Enjoy your baby no matter what. Unfortunately Yorkies are quite popular now and folks can pretty much get what they ask for them. If it makes you feel better, I paid even more for mine,(American Kennel Club) and still did not get a show quality dog. But she is mine forever and I love her no matter what. |

| Thank you That was a great answer and I guess the dog is pretty much what you are willing to pay for them and how badly you want one. I'm very happy with my puppy, the woman who sold her to me said I should have done my homework, I have found she is not a nice person, but hey, she's not important and I am very happy with Blu - is what my son named her. He is autistic and loves her and is more gentle than a regular child. We had went out of town for the weekend and left the puppy and our Siberian, who is very old. We get to the kennel and he demanded she bring out the puppy, and she asks about the other dog and he says get my puppy please. Blu is such a good fit with the whole family. I like this website, and again, thanks for your great answer. I do feel better |

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | Aca here is the ACA's website: ACA American Canine Association The ACA is one of those registries that came up as competition for the AKC. They are basically a registry for pet breeders. They are a little cheaper than the AKC and they don't require as much proof of pedigree to register a dog. It's not the the other registries are "bad" just that they are easier to abuse by dishonest breeders and puppy mills. They also don't participate in things like health research, shows, etc t(though they do occasionally sponsor shows, it's NOTHING like an AKC show). Being ACA registered doesn't mean your dog isn't pure-bred. It just means your dog is registered with the ACA. And, being registered with the AKC isn't really "proof" that the dog is pure-bred either. Both registries rely on information from the breeder. But, the AKC at least provides for DNA testing of sires and dams and does occasionally verify the parentage of puppies using that DNA. If you want, you can take your pedigree from the ACA and provide it to the AKC to see if your dog can be registered with the AKC.
