I'm so sorry you are going through this, I'm glad you found an excellant vet though. Praying that Champ makes it through this, I know it's very hard on you. I always urge people to find the best breeder that will sell to them, and once you lose a dog because of a genetic illness, you know how important it is to only support those breeders who are breeding to improve the breed.

Confused Now I'm worried

I bought a 9wk old boy from FancyPups.com and have since read all of the reviews, etc about them. I did take my boy to our vet the next day and was told that he looked fine. Our vet opted to give him his shots - even though Jimmie had given me his "shot record" - the vet said that because they didn't use the "stickers" and it just looked like a word document it was better to be safe rather than sorry.

But now I'm concerned - he seems fine and he is really coming into his personality. We took him out to my dad's on saturday and he had a great tiem...he ran and ran and played and played outside (my dad has a much bigger place than we do) and then on Sunday we took him over to my mom's so he did quite a bit of traveling this weekend. He went to bed VERY early last night and slept most of the night (totally unusual for him) and today he is playing in small bursts and eating in small bursts, but just doesnt seem like himself...should I be worried or is he still trying to catch up from all of his travels from this weekend?

In reply to "mocanady"...

Well, first off Yorkie pups should be kept with their Mom's at least for 12-14 weeks (in case you didn't know) and any pup at 9 weeks should not be out running around (especially outdoors) until they have had all of their puppy shots.

Your pup was probably overstimulated and is suffering the consequences.

Make sure he is eating, drinking, peeing & pooping...pups this young can easily fade...keep nutrical on hand for low blood sugar!

First off 9 weeks is too young to remove a yorkie pup from it's Mom and you should be very careful taking out a pup so young. Chances are he is worn out from all of his socializing this weekend but if he's not back to his normal self by tomorrow (or an ER vet if he gets worse this evening) I would be taking him in to the vet.

IDK if you've got a healthy pup or not, as some problems don't surface immediately, i.e. liver shunt. Hopefully, here in a few months you'll be taking him in to be neutered and can have some blood work done that may be indicative of any health problems like liver shunts. As long as he is acting healthy, eating, drinking, playing, growing, etc., I wouldn't be too worried. If he is not healthy acting, take him in now for further testing.

I hope this helps potential buyers.....when you get a puppy they should come with a litter registration paperwork with the name of the breeder on them, if the name doesn't match the seller it's a huge red flag that this could be a broker.

I've been wanting to get a Yorkie for years and now I finally have the chance. My boyfriend wants to buy me one as a Christmas gift. I talked to Jon last night and placed a $200 deposit on one of the puppies and we are going Monday to see him.
I don't know why I decided to google the Rascoes but this website came up and now I've read so many horrible stories and feel so disappointed and sad. I really want a Yorkie but not if it's coming from dishonest people who don't even know the history of the puppy.

Where else in the Houston area can I buy a Yorkie puppy??

I'm not sure where to buy a yorkie in Houston, but you might want to check ads in the paper and make sure you can see the parents and that the puppy is not from a mill. I've spent thousands of dollars on my FancyPups pup due to medical problems. I highly recommend that you do not buy from them and you get your deposit back however, if you must buy from them have a vet set up right after you buy it and have blood work done immediately to make sure it doesn't have liver issues. My dog also had leg issues, so have them check the legs too. I didn't find out that my dog had medical issues until I had blood work done which was too late. I think they only give you a day or so for check ups. Unless you want to spend thousands on medical, have blood work done asap and be prepared to return the pup or find a reputable breeder and make sure you meet the puppies parents and check their medical records. No puppy parents= puppy mill or puppy broker. Good luck! Hope you find a healthy happy pup

Thank you jfaunt!
I have never had a dog before so your suggestions help a lot. I am going to check out the puppy on Monday and follow your advice on the blood work if we do decide to buy him.

You're welcome. I was just like you, with no dog experience so I'm happy I could help! I wish I would have done my research like your doing but luckily my pup is doing well after surgery, special diet and medication. Wish you all the best

Oh, a quick question jfaunt.
How early will the blood work be available to find out if the puppy has any problems? Since they only give me 48 business hours to return the puppy if he/she does not check out with the vet I was wondering if the blood work is a fast process?

IMHO, If you could get your deposit back (what with not seeing the pup yet) that would be my advise- and call the local breed club to ask for referrals to good breeders in your area... many conditions do not show up for years, so even if the initial check goes ok, what about next year? You would have no comeback from a breeder such as this (I imagine) where as any reputable breeder will be there for support for the lifetime of you dog...
I cannot remember the prices of these pups, (and am on my phone so can't really check) but I'd imagine that if you did have to lose you deposit, it would likely work out the cheapest option in the long run... As jfaunt has pointed out.
Jfaunt- so glad your baby is doing so much better now!
I believe we have a fair few members in your area- if you do a member search I'm sure some of them would be more than happy to refer you to their breeders- depending on the outcome of their pups ofcourse!
Wish you all the best in your search/purchase!

Do NOT buy a puppy from these people!!! I bought my Lola from them in 2008 and did not know she had liver problems until she was a year old. I then found out she had LP in both back legs when I flew her from Texas to Tennessee to have her liver shunt surgery done. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars getting Lola "healthy"....she will always have MVP and no telling what is to come. Why buy a puppy form a broker when you know it??? I had no idea when I bought Lola from the Roscoe's. I was led to believe they were the breeders. Please, please, please save yourself the heartache and money by buying from a reputable breeder. It's no more expensive - FancyPups is not cheap...it's just a terrible, terrible way to get a puppy. I would, and have done anything for my sweet Lola, but she also has some socialization issues that my others don't have from being a "mill puppy" and not being properly socialized while a tiny baby. I just can not stress upon you enough that it is a huge mistake to buy from these people. I tried to contact them when I found out about Lola's problems and they would not call me back. Please take just a little more time to find a puppy that has been properly socialized and whose parents you know something about! Good luck!

I agree with lolasmom about getting your money back. She has had the same problems that I've had with champ. I moved to Tennessee and this is where I discovered Champ had liver and leg problems. Our vet here was able to give me blood test result the same day but it cost me $250 to check it so if your puppy had issues, you'd be out that money and very sad if you have to return it. It would be worth a drive to find a reputable breeder. My best advice is to find a breeder that has both parents for you to meet and verify their medical records. Most of these issues are genetic due to over breeding. Any money these people make goes towards continuing the practice of over breeding. I really do wish you all the best, I'm sure with very little research and less gas money than you'd spend vs. the $250 on blood tests, you can find a great breeder with proven healthy pups. Wish you all the best

I agree 100% with Lolasmom! We've both had the same problems and we don't want you to endure what we have. Our blood test was done in TN and it cost $250 which would be a lot of money for you to spend to find out if you were lucky enough to get a healthy dog. Don't do it, get a refund and find a reputable breeder. Way too risky.
