| Letter from AKC today...Oh no!!! Here's one for ya, Got a letter today from the AKC stating that my Maltese, Rowdy, is excluded to his dam (can not be the offspring of)!!! I sent his DNA in about a year ago because he has sired 7 litters. (you know the routine.) The AKC tells me to contact the breeder I got Rowdy from for more info. I know she moved, and I bought him 5 years ago. What's even more upsetting to me is all the families that have bought my pups over the years and papered them all, their registrations have been put on referral as has Rowdys until there is a conclusion. I guess the breeder has to supply DNA from which ever Dam she thinks is the mom, I don't know if she even HAS to. I know I'm going to be getting alot of calls from the families because they all got the same letter I got today. I don't know what to tell them. Who would use another Dams number for reg.???? What the heck is wrong with people?? Did this happen to you? |

| Thanks Sharon. This is so hard to believe since I've been using him as a stud for all these years, producing really beautiful babies. I'm in shock! I still want to cry. |

| Whoa, that is serious a headache. I hope you handle stress well girl. I feel for you. I haven't experience any difficulties with AKC (knock on wood) but there are alot of plenty of knowledgeable breeders that will come along and hopefully help you along that way. I hate that your going through this ugh! |

| I bet that the AKC are making the breeder of Rowdy jump through alot of hoops right now!!! Good luck in straightening it all out. Keep your chin up! |

| I'm sorry this happened to you, it will be the most frustrating, stressful thing that will ever happen to you in breeding! This happened to me on a female I bought. 1st of all, the letter AKC sends out sounds like you made the mistake, not the breeder that you purchased from. After you get through those phone calls from angry families you have sold to, and explained to all, you then begin to try to work on getting the problem fixed. You are helpless. AKC will suspend the Breeder until she gets the DNA done on her females. The breeder does not have to comply, and can just start registering her litters with another registration.. APRI, UKC, etc.. and tell everyone that AKC is too expensive so she switched registrations.... It took me a year to get it straightened out. Thankfully, it was my female's first litter, so I only had 1 litter that was excluded until their Mom was cleared with AKC. The breeder took her time getting things straightened out, but to her credit she did finally fix it, (after a few emails of threatening to contact my Attorney). This also screws up litters of the actual mom and the other pups in your male's litter, offspring etc. What a mess! Going back 5 years is going to be tough, and she may not still own the "actual" Mom any longer. I'm not sure this is done on purpose, but a testament to breeders to remember that puppies from different litters should never be placed together until microchipped! Surrogate moms with their own litter is risky too. I really hope things work out for you, and your breeder follows through! |

| I'm sorry this happened to you too. I really hope this can be worked out. One of the females (Lacy) that I usually breed Rowdy with is getting spayed after she is done nursing anyway but I also bred him with China Doll (Chi-Chi) and they have made some really gorgeous Maltese. It's just such a shame that this will trickle down to so many dog owners. Like you said I believe I am going to be helpless in this matter. |

| I'm sorry this woman did this to you. She just left you there hanging to explain the situation to all these people. Do you think you'll be able to find her?

| Akc I think it would be wise to DNA all stud potentials before using them, IF you bought them...not a bad idea if you are the breeder of the stud potential either..!!! It would save alot of stress for you. Since no other registry requires DNA, these mistakes are never found (except in AKC dogs ) and in a few generations the lineage is totally bogus in most lines... |

| Its' doubtful, since she told me when I bought Rowdy 5 years ago that they were moving to Cal. I am wondering if AKC will give me her phone number when I call them tomorrow. |

| This is horrible news! I don't know what will happen? I hope everything works out and things are better soon!!! For everyone out there NEVER give out the date on the AKC cert that states when you registered your dog. If someone asks for a copy of the AKC cert - make one and black out the date of registry. They can use the AKC # and registery date to register ANY litter. I actually had someone ask for my dogs AKC # and the date of registery so I KNOW there are people out there that do this!

| When I registered my litter last week I thought that it would be really easy for someone to use another dogs information and really who would know. This is so sad that this happens right after I thought that. I mean really. All you would have to do is know the numbers, dates and make a different email address. Scary.

| I don't know if the kind of people that do this know how many people it can affect in the long run. It's just so wrong to hurt so many people...just so you can make a buck on a papered litter? Don't they realize that it will come back to haunt them if they are selling to known breeders? |
