Default C/Sections??

I know there's several things that factor in, but as a breeder, what is the max amount of c/sections that you would let your girl have before spaying? This is based on her being able to free whelp along with having to have a c/section because of a puppy being sideways, etc.

I've heard different opinions from breeders and vets and would also like the opinions of the breeders on this thread.

Thanks for your expertise.

Well for me, personaly...I started out breeding Chi's. She had a c section and has not been bred since. I'm just too scared to risk her having another since she had complications while under.

I've since had a Yorkie have one, and I'm giving her a year + rest and then trying it one more time. If she needs another section (which would make 2 sections) then she will be spayed.

Her 1st litter was a free whelp, her 2nd litter was 2 pups, one pup natural and the 2nd pup was a c section. She was just to tired to get her out on her own.

So depending on if it was a healthy c section or not, I'd try one time after the 1st c section. But thats just me.

Just because a female has had a C-section because of the reason you gave before, doesn't mean that it will happen again. If it were to happen again, for the health of the female, risking a 3rd time would not be an option.

Thanks Breny and Mardelin. That's what the consensus was with the breeders. The vets had other opinions.

I guess we as breeders have to do what's is the best for our girls....Now a vet may have an alterer motive....."C-Section/money". Don't get me wrong...I love my vet and he is not about money, but the love of taking care of animals. However, let's face it Vetinarians run a business.

Exactly, we do have to do what's best for our girls. And I totally understand the concept of the vet being in business. My vet is not in it for the money either. A c/section costs around $300. and an additional $25. for after hours. So I know that he's not in it for the money. He just thinks that they can have at least 3 c/sections, of course, depending on the health of the dog. However, I am going to go with the breeders on this one as we live with our girls and know what's best for them.

I truly appreciate your expertise. You always have very informative posts!

Edited to say that I miss quoted the price of the c/section. It's approx. $250. including oxy shot and antibiotics.

I don't live in the Burbs of Ft. Worth. I live real close to the coast. Not too far from TXShopper73, Kim, on here.
