| congrats on the new kids.... the heat pad sould be under the whelping bed wrapped in a towel, on low and only to one side, so they and mom can wander to the other side if it is too warm. Mom will move them for several reasons, usually because she doesnt like where you have her and them, wants her privacy. If she is moving only one to the side, perhaps mother nature is say the pup is healthy, or the bed is just plain too warm.

| Sometimes they will push a unhealthy one away and cull it out. I would get after her next time she pickes them up and tell her, NO Then praise her when she's nursing and being a good girl. Good luck |

| I had a bitch do this once and the only thing that made her happy was to put her in a 100 size kennel and cover the sides with a towel so it was dark. I then put a piece of cardboard about 4 inches high so the babies could not get out and covered the top half with a towel so she could go in and out. She was so happy then to have her babies in the dark. I tried everything and this is what worked for her. I have never had a bitch to this again but I am ready for one now. She is worried so I would not get after her, she is trying to find a safe place( in her mind ) for her babies. I wish you luck , it does make you worry. |

| pups I can remember a few new moms doing that for a day or so...I would cover the pen and make it quiet and dark also..some new moms are easily stressed... |

| I think Debbie and Pat are right. They want a den like atmosphere, they do not want in the open the first few weeks. Put her in a nice size crate and make her a den so she will feel like they are safely hidden away from all the activity. Good luck deana |

| My girl did same thing 2 nights in a row when they were first born. I moved her and pups to corner of my living room with more privacy (it sort of faces the wall- she seems to like that) and covered top of xpen with sheet. She never did it again.

| All That Have Come To My Rescue...blessings 2u I have been breeding Blue Yorkshire Terriers under 6 lbs for approximately six year with very happy and healthy babes...no deaths or still borns...or deformed...i would also like to let you know that be4 my yorks...i bred labrador retrievers...top lines...Veteranians where always waiting for my pups...black and yellows...I have never in my past 30 yrs had such a heart breaking litter for my kid Emerald and myself...my breeder that i work very closely with ( very recognized yorkie breeder in Ontario) came to my rescue that nite when she was giving birth...( first litter with cesarian~ two very large boys for her to have and couldn't ...my reg vet was on medical leave and the office said they were not sure if he was able to come back...blessing with him...he had the best beside manner u would ever want in a dr. for your kids...including children...talked with u in lemans language, and the animals relaxed with him...as he was very relaxed...Beautiful...like...Ceaser... (dog whisper) can u tell i miss my vet...that i have searched for years to find...any way getting back...I was shocked to find out after i had Emerald xrayed...she had at least 5 pup in side...I asked if he would be on call for me for the size of my girl and that many pups...as i was there on the friday...day 57...i strongly believe that when he tried to insert his finger in her...and couldn't started her in a full swing labor...i only wanted him to check her out as she was leaking fluid and i wanted to make sure again that she could bear them...pups born on day 57...the first two were stillborn completely formed...my breeder could not get any life at all...I actually try mouth to mouth...when they have no color???third pup was extremely small and very tiny...(fragile...but came to life real good)...4th and fifth took quite a bit of time... but were larger and slid right out......Needless to say...my horror for my little girl was first two still born...third...really small lived for 5 days with my intervention...she smothered 4th...she tried to climb a mountain with him...and threw him on the floor...I witnessed it...Emerald is left with the biggest one that she could not get in her mouth..! she is a wonderful mom...Awful loss...as i treasure all my pups...bring them up with mon...then me...then all my 5 yorkies...that are absolutely wonderful...and teach all their bossy ways...if u know what i mean... I am looking forward to finding out exactly how to use this site...as i sent this message as soon as it started happening...asking 4 advice... Thank u so much, 2 all of u that helped Blessing with u and all yours Ann |

| Hi Guys, My Suki just had her litter and started picking them up and moving them from the box. She wanted to feed them but the heating pad was too warm for her so she moved them where she felt comfortable. So I took a large dog crate that I had my bassett hound in when I had him and sterilized it and put her in it, Moved the heating pad to under the crate, took off the door and sat the lid on top without securing it so that I could get into the box if needed, She has not moved them since. I totally agree with the den idea, that is what she wanted. She feels more secure and safe in there and can watch the only opening in the front to keep in eye on her puppies and if you need to get into the crate just pull off the top. They are 3 weeks now and moving around, So I took a piece of cardboard and taped it across the front making the opening only 1/2 as large and low enough for Suki to climb in and they cant get out. Works great ! |
