| Both my male studs are in the 3 pound range (actually my Butch has been running a little less than 3 pounds lately).... so I'd say the 3 pound range. Butch has mated with females up to 8 pounds... he doesn't seem to have a problem with the difference in size. I am guessing the average opinion will be in the 4-5 pound range.

| It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you are trying to get small little money makers , then by all means go with a little boy but if you are breeding to standard and you are hoping for quality, then you need a quality boy. My boys are 5 to 6 pounds and they have been shown and are AKC Champions. 5 pounds is really small enough for me, I hope you find a nice boy. Just remember the size of the grandparents matters too, find out as much as you can. It can be very difficult to purchase a quality male for breeding with a great pedigree if you are not showing and trying to improve the breed. Best of Luck to you. |

| It seems like everyone is looking for a 3 lb stud. I have had a lot of people looking for a male and had held back a gorgeous boy who at 10 months is 6 lbs 4 ounces he has been at 6 lbs since about 5 1/2 - 6 months that is a standard size from standard sire and dam etc. . Gorgeous confirmation, great bite etc. But when any inquires about him they immeadiately are no longer interested due to his 6 lbs. lol but they were so interested in his litter mate who was 4 1/2 lbs who has now grown I think another lb. I know when I started I wanted 4 1/2 lbs. But realize after many years that 6 lbs is fine..lol and it depends on whats behind the size of that male too. 3 lb male could be from 7 - 8 lb ancestors. deana dray;1324251]It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. | stud What you are going to find is.."one stud does not fit all"..rarely will one stud be suited to each and every bitch you want to breed.. |

Breny, You need to study the complete line of a stud. And as Pat says one stud does not fit all. Each breeding. even with the same sire and dam, will be different.

BANNED! | I agree with size depending on what your trying to accomplish. I have a 5 1/2 lb male and I just purchased at smaller male to add to my breeding program who will stay in the 3 to 3 1/2 lb range. I felt this way I have more options depending on what female I will be breeding with them. |

| I know when I started my breeder said she would only have one stud. I do believe she has more than that now. I bought 2 boys from her each one from first litter and one from second and each produce differently although both sire and dam are the same. Very nice boys and a lot of people thought I was crazy to buy two from the exact same pedigree. But each has held a very important place in our breedings. Both did acquire their Ch title too. One is very compact and just adorable and the other one is a bigger boy more leg, more reach of neck more elegant, he is the sire of the 6 lb boy. And his son reminds me so much of him. Slow growing silk and all. Gotta love the boys!! I always want to keep the boys. |

| breeding Never a truer statement was made... I look at the pedigree first..try to see or remember (photos)as many of the dogs as possible. Sometimes a male will click with most everything..and that stud is a treasure...but each breeding can be totally different. Rini (Whispersmom) and I tried to reproduce another Jesse...used the same parents 3 more times and no Jesse...nothing even close to him IMO... |
