That's EXACTLY how I feel! I can call my best friend "bitch" in a joking way, and we both think we're so damn funny, witty and clever - being so original and all.

But I can't call a dog that name!

When being used to talk about breeding etc. when you are in dogs, it doesn't phase me at all.
I do remember back when I was dating my husband who is now my ex I was at KMart with my mom, this is back in the 80's, and I heard someone scream across the store Hey Bitch. I thought I would die, my mom was in a fighting mood LOL until she realized who it was. It was my husbands grandmother.
I could have hid under a rock.
But to refer to a dog such as Winners Bitch, its just part of the terminology.

it doesnt offend or bother me its just weird when im reading a post and a see the word bitch and im like uh oh for a min and then i have to realize we are talking about a female dog and we just arent on here calling each other bitches lol.

i guess since its used so bad and some of us regularly dont hear or see it so much online lol then its just a little shock when we see the word and then we have to realize.

i curse like a sailor too lol but i use the famous F word a lot lol

I do not use bad language and I think that I would have trouble calling my dog a Bitch. Good thing I will have a boy!!

My mom has no problem calling the girls little bitches, and she refers to herself as The Queen of the Bitches and is Proud of it. I guess that makes me and my sisters princesses after all!!

I'm not comfortable using it either for a female dog...and even my friends and I call eachother bitches! (of course, were just joking and don't mean it seriously though)

Other than in the ring, the use of the word Dam is acceptable.

That term sounds so much nicer.....I thought I was the only one that cringed when I heard a female dog called a bitch.....maybe the male should be called a pr*ck to be fair to her....

We have a female cat that we call "B" or "Big B", but for some reason that doesn't bother me

The cats have it made they are King and Queen
imagine that.. lol

Sire and Dam or Stud and Bitch

But if you think about it when our little yorkie girls come into season a lot of them earn that title of Bitch.

LOL Potty mouths of the world unite!

Seriously, the word doesn't bother me either. And the reason it became a slang/derogatory word for women was that they were using the term to apply facets of female dogs to women. So if your female dog is a sweetie, and someone calls you a bitch, take it as a compliment!

Default terms

The terms Bitch (female) and Dog (male) mean something totally different then the terms..Dam and Sire...all Dams/ Sires are Dogs and bitches, but not all Dogs/bitches are sires and dams...

I relish my title as "Alpha Bitch"...LOL

tami, this question is for you or anyone else to answer.

when is it appropiate to use 'Dam" or "Bitch"?

All of you are so fun to learn from. Lets see if I got this straight from Yorkie Rose's post.

Any male dog is a Dog (real clever)
Any female dog is a Bitch
Any male breeding dog is a Sire (or a Dog)
Any female breeding dog is a Dam (or a Bitch)

Is this correct?
