| Question for Breeders with Spay-Neuter Contracts i want to use a spay/neuter contract. i want to know if any of you offer a rebate back once they have completed the spay/neuter. i thought about this for a long time and see many people out there having litters with limited akc papers then get them registered with another registry. i thought if i offered a $60.00 rebate, then it would get them to do this as soon as possible before they start thinking, "ohhh i can make money if i breed him/her" let me know if this would be a good idea or just trash the thought thanks lisa

| S/N I do not give papers until they are S/N..a few registries want AKC info such as APRI..perhaps UKC..of course many will register with photo.. My last few litters in Maryland, I charged an extra $200 and it was returned after S/N... |

| I'm fighting with a lady now who is trying to get me to change her pups registration so that she can breed her for her family members. She really seems to expect me to give her permission to breed when she knows nothing about it and I sold her a pet quality dog. After this I'm seriously considering getting the pups spayed/neutered before they leave home. It seems to be the only way that we can truly protect our pups. My neighbor signed a spa/ neuter contract and at 13 monthes he still hasn't gotten her fixed. I'm thinking about taking her up to Dr. Banks myself cause he just doesn't seem to see the necessity of getting it done in a timely manner. It's incredible how many people out there just don't take breeding seriously and it's only going to get worse as our breed increases in popularity.

I sold just one puppy on a spay contract , I lived to regret it very much . I promised myself to never do it again . Now , all my puppies are spayed or neutered before leaving my home .

| A rebate is not a bad idea unless you get a stubborn person and they may think that it is worth the extra $200. to breed the dog anyway under a different registry. The lady I'm dealing with right now is just not getting it and I doubt $200. would help her to give up the idea of making easy money off of my pup. I haven't asked my vet if he would fix the pups at 12 weeks but he's a breeder/exhibitor as well so he might.

| I don't release registration papers until the procedure is complete. I've had no problem in the past. But, since I've relocated, I'm changing my procedure and will not release puppies until the procedure is completed. Rebate, not sure if they'll even care, or if withholding papers. If they're hell bent on having puppies they will. I like Lorraine's contract saying she'll sieze puppies and all with no financial return to the owner and $5,000 fine if breeding is done outside the contract. Thanks Lorraine, think I'll see if it'll hold up court, will check with my laywer. I've been witness to so many irresponsible pet owners since I've moved to California, it absolutely amazes me. The mentality here is you buy a dog, you breed it to recoup your money. There is no care for these lil creatures. You see them running the streets everywhere, filled with ticks, fleas, dirty, none of their basic needs met.

| vet When I placed pups it was never the same day deal..I asked for time to speak to the new puppies vet..I would tell them the puppy was going with S/N...and wanted it followed through. Some vets are good to remind and send me a note saying it was done if the owner forgot..but there is nothing stopping the new owner from changing vets..these are just little things I did to form a relationship with the owner... I realize not all want a 6 month old..and that is understandable..and it means keeping more pups longer then planned..and it will cost more in time and money..there are no easy answers.. I have run into the best and worst...one woman bought a male from me..she lived one street away. I groomed this male and even boarded him. Neutering time came and she told me she was going to breed him to her mothers female...I reminded her of our agreement and she had no papers in her name..she tried laughing it off,, saying I couldn't possibly object since we were now good friends...at the time of the agreement we were just neighbors... A litter of 4 males were born..and you know this woman had the nerve to come over one evening, pups in a carrier and asked me to give my opinion of quality...and by the way, would I mind referring buyers for 2..????!!!!!! I did not even let her inside the door... The male was neutered soon after..and she thought this would put the friendship back to where it was..of course it did not and I sure heard it from several people, what a bitch I was...don't let this get you down, it happens to the best and the best have told me that same type stories...how would all these good lines wind up in BYBER's pedigrees if people ddin't screw you up from time to time? There is a woman in Miami with Parkside in her peds..she sells from her pet boutique... |

| Pat, Doesn't that just make you sick to your stomach. I know when I have people approach me to review their contracts and I see some of the best kennel names there, then nothing up front....I just want to scream.

| Even rescue shelters that I know of won't release a dog to you until after it's spayed/neutered, or if the pups to young you have to put extra money down to try to ensure you get it done. It also says in their contract that if you fail to get them spayed/neutered they can take the dog back, so I think your justified in doing whatever you have to to ensure your rules are followed. I had to pay $300 extra to get full registration for Penny. She's only six months old, and until she's atleast two and has all the proper tests done I won't breed her, but a lot of people don't care and are in it for the money only. You sound like a very responsible breeder to me. Good luck.

The first Yorkie I bought with the hopes of showing and breeding was this kind of deal. I was as green as grass at the time and didn't know any better. She was 4 mos old when I bought her and she would make a 'great show dog' as all the sellers dogs were show dogs but she doesn't show because it is too political. Boy did I ever get taken. This little pup was not even close to a show dog, ended up too small to consider for breeding, had a cute 'pixie face' breeders description which I didn't know was because she was very overshot and therefore really should not be used for breeding, had a crablegged rear and a poor front which I guess balanced each other so she did have a straight topline but no neck and was soft coated, very short legged. Oh and she had some sort of genetic teeth problem and I had to have the front teeth between the canines removed at 18 mos as they suddenly went brown and were rotting. She was a nice pet but certainly never should have been sold for breeding for $300 more. That was in 1992 when I bought her. she did live a good life died at 14 years.
