| All experienced Breeders X-ray or NOT? I am hearing different things on getting an Xray. I want to do what is right. My Lil Girl tied on May 27th. I was told by my vet to get an xray on her 5 or 6 week. But then told by Breeders not to.. to wait till around 55 days. THen I read that you dont have to get a Xray... What are the benifets to getting an Xray.. I do realize that it can give you an amount of pups.. but can it give you an idea whether or not your baby can handle the pups coming out. I mean I know there is no gaurantee whether she will have to have a C-section or not... but can it give you a better guestimation? Any other comments on it and advice is appreciated.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Everyone is going to have their own opinions and different ways they do things, but here's mine I like to get an xray around day 58, give or take. The reason being is so I know how many pups she is carring. That way you will know what to expect and you will know when she is finished. Also, from the xray , the vet may be able to tell how big the pups are and if she should have problems in deliverying them. My vet says that the xray is not a real accurate way to see the size but it still gives an idea. So that is how and why I do my xrays. I hope with helps! |

| We do an x-ray every time. Now it can't show 100% that your dog can have the pups ok, but it really does help. You can see if there is one that is just WAY too big to ever come out or not. Our Paris had a c-section only because two puppies tried pushing out at the same time and her labor stopped because of it. No way to tell that from an x-ray if that will happen BUT you will know when you have all of your puppies and you can go to bed! Make sure they DON'T take an xray from the side - I hate that when they do that and you can't see anything. We alway request one on their backs. Hope that helps!

| Yes, it helps so much Everyone! Thank you so much! So I need to tell request to my vet that he takes the Xray on her back? Also schedule her xray on her 58th day. I am trying to get everything together for this. Thanks again to all of you.

58th day is a bit late, she may go into labor then 58-63rd day. A week before her 1st due date is better, as her time draws nearer you want to do little to upset or stress her.

| Joy and all, This is why I love YorkieTalk. You get others opinions without having to pay a vet visit!! Out Lexie is on day 50 today, and our vet is going to xray her tomorrow ( and thanks, I am going to tell him to have her on her back..I never thought of that), he said to xray between 45 and 55. So..I will get it done tomorrow around 10 AM (I am in Florida) and I will come back here and tell everyone how it went, and try and post the picture. Thanks all and let's keep sharing.

| I would also suggest having one done before her whelp date. I would list the reasons why, but they would basically echo those that have already been given, so I will just say... |

| i have not had a x-ray prior to delivery due to my vet refuses to do so. xrays cannot tell you how many b/c if you have been here on yt long enough, you will see some were surprised w more or even less. but i think it is a good idea to see if there is a large pup in there. i would have it at around day 55 and no later than 58 for piece of mind.

| Firstly I would deffo do a scan around day 28 to check she IS pregnant. I didn't, after advice, and my bitch wasn't pregnant when I finally scanned her around day 58-60 I think it was ! If she is, I think you will be worried enough that an x-ray will put you mind at rest - hence why I asked for one from my vet in the later stage when I was worried as to her size. I was told a scan would suffice, but I am in Scotland, and maybe an x-ray is more customary elsewhere, and also a better indication of how many pups, any problems with Mum, etc. ......GOOD LUCK !!!
