Donating YT 11K Club Member | Is 4-4 1/2 lbs okay to breed? I have heard different things from different people...I have heard it is safe to breed females 5 lbs and up but what if their build is really small and they have tiny hips? I have also heard that it is okay to breed around a 4lb female depending on her built..so what is true? Is it okay to breed a 4.5 lb female if she has the built and can carry the babies? Btw I don't breed but I am just wondering and doing tons of research.

| I have to agree with Mardelin here with the 5 pound rule. Even then though, there are other things to consider. We have a 5 1/2 pound girl (spayed) that has a frame that was WAY to small to even consider her for a breeding bitch. I'm know it isn't impossible , but I can't imagine it being a great idea. |

| Well ya know, has some business affairs to take care of. Finally got some free time on my hands. Thanks! BTW mizz-- Kudos to you for taking the time to research, either for future adventures in breeding or just out of curiosity. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | Thank you! IDK if I want to breed in the future or not but I am doing research anyway cause it's good to know since I am a Yorkie owner. I bred and raised cockatiels and I know it's totally different from Yorkies lol but I enjoyed hand feeding them and seeing them grow and trust me even those little birds are a huge responsibility and I started doing this at 17 yrs old..it wasn't planned btw but my cockatiel pair just kept having eggs

I have a Cockateil named Aussie! She lays eggs and gets grouchy all the time. It is so much fun. <not> When she isn't, she likes to sit on my head and stare at my eye. Unnerving, really... Last edited by BamaFan121s; 06-30-2007 at 05:30 PM. | |

You are so right....there have been 7 pound bitches that have been bred that are perfectly stuctured for whelping litters. A pup could get stuck going up the otherside to the other horn, be too big because it's in the horn by itself and grown too much or be too big and can't present itself and blocked off the rest of the litter and the whole litter is lost. So, yes you are right, research is best and research everything, pedigrees, lines, genetics, breeding, whelping, raising a litter. You can't prepare too much.
