Default Sick Baby

Hi. I have a sick baby and its not one of Kileys babies, they are fine and growing like weeds, i will post more pics as soon as I get them resized. This puppy is my 13 week old female chihuahua my husband got me for mothers day. About 3 weeks ago her hair started falling out on her side. Now she has none on the back of her legs and on one side and on her chest. I took her to the vet and she though it was just allergies since the skin scrape showed nothing. So I started the meds like she said. All was going ok and she had stopped scratching but the other night i noticed a bluish white spot in her eye. I made her an appointment with the vet for the only day I have off this week. Well tonight her entire right eye is the bluish white color. I cant tell if she can see out of it since she wont stay still long enough. She doesnt seem to be having any problems while walking around and is still eating and drinking ok. Any ideas on what this could be? Oh, shes 1 pound at 13 weeks so I believe she may be a smaller adult.

So sorry to hear about this. I don't have any experience with eye problems. My first guess with the white and blue would be either cataracts or blindness. Bless her heart, hopefully the vet will have good news.

the spot on her eye is most likely unrelated to her hairloss. Since she is a puppy i'm going to venture a guess and say that it may be demadex. Alot of times puppies get this from their mother. Its a type of mange that causes massive hair loss and itchiness. What medication did you vet put her on? also did he do a scrape from just one spot or from multiple spots? sometimes one scrape from one area will not find the demadex. I highly doubt such a young puppy has allergies. mites are more likely the culprit.

As for her eye, it sounds like she has a scratch on her cornea. Another idea is that maybe her eye isn't closing totally when she sleeps. check next time she is sleeping to make sure her eye is closing all the way. Either way the vet would need to treat the eye.

sorry your having such problems with a new puppy

hopefully she'll get better soon.

Its not demadex. They did multiple scrapings and ive had dogs in the past with demadex and the skin where the hair was looks nothing like theirs did. Its still healthy in color, just a little dry looking.
Ill check on the eye closing thing. The lady he got her from said something about scratching her eye also, but it worried me when it started spreading throughout the eye. My husband got her to sit still for a sec and said he thought she could still see out of it.
I hope its something that can be fixed and nothing too serious. Shes a great pup and shes the one that kiley was "mothering" before she had her pups.

As for the eye, I'm not going to say anything but maybe its a scratched cornia. My mother raises chi's so I know about the hair loss. She has one female (that she don't breed cause she dont want it passed down) that looses her hair one the back of her legs once in a while. Our vet can't find nothing wrong so what me Mother does to get rid of it is mixes cooking grease with her hard dog chow, they like the taste and it helps dry skin. All she does is whenever she grounds beef or something it drain the grease and poors it on the dry dog food. We had a abused Rot one time and when we got her she had NO hair at all, we thought it was mange but the vet confirmed that it wasn't so my mother gave her grease and also rubbed babyoil on her 4 times a day and the hair came back. Later we found the she was allergic to straw and she was tied to a doghouse with straw in it and that was why she lost her hair. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Ill try that and see if it helps. This is also on the back of her legs, but also anywhere she can reach to scratch has hair missing. She was soooo itchy. Shes just a pet, theres no way I would breed her. Shes so small I dont think shes going to get much bigger.

If I had to guess I say she may be or just shy of 2 pounds full grown! Tiny little thing! Glad to hear the pups are all doing well! My grandma had a chi. mix and he had allergies from about 8 weeks on. He mostly had allergies in the summer time and the vet put him on benadryl. Plus we added fish oil to his diet, once we did this his hair grow back and was healthier than ever! Hope everything turns out ok!

Man, 2 pounds is small!! The breeder said she was suppose to be around 4. Well, thats fine too. Noone can exactly say how they will grow. I gave her benadryl and that seemed to help. It looks like her hair is growing back slowly, but her eye is still blue. We are off to the vet this afternoon.
I can get fish oil from walmart cant I? Or is there a special kind for dogs?

What did the vet say? When our male was just a few weeks old he started loosing his hair and we fould out he was allergic to the soil that the contracters were using to build our pool and we were allowing him to run around and play near it. We stopped that and all got better. Hope you find a simuliar solution! Good Luck!

I am pretty sure you can get fish oil anywhere they have vitamins, walmart, would most likely have them. Hope everything went ok at the vets!

Vet really didnt say much, she did give her an allergy shot though. i also had to take kileys pups in so they were trying to figure out what was wrong with them. Turns out that the puppy food they were eating was too rich for them and it was messing their stomachs up. She put them on prescription food and their better now.
I got some fish oil today. Do i squeeze it into her food? Ive been putting baby oil on her and that seems to help with the dry skin and the hair looks like it is starting to grow back a little better now.
