| Breeders I need your expertise ???? As I have said on other threads I think that my female is pregnant , she has an appointment with her new vet on the 27th of this month for her pregnancy test. I am noticing that she has to go pee more often and she is dripping sometimes on the floor, Like she dont know she is going before she feels the need. (does that make sense ? ) Is this normal ? Also she has lost her appetite and it is hard to get her to eat her dog food. She will eat my dinner thou, Fresh chicken or turkey from the rotissere. When do I put her on the puppy food ? I know she hasnt even been confirmed pregnant, BUT she is getting pudgy and she is hording all her treats in her bed. You know sometimes that you just know. I think the breeders will agree sometimes you just know. Last edited by Paw2PawTalk; 06-19-2007 at 12:49 PM. |

| I am guessing then that she isn't very far along? When a female is close to birth she will leak a clear discharge, but it's not urine at all. I would worry that she may have a urinary infection.

| I asked this same question awhile back because mine was going through a false pregnancy and she did the same exact thing. It was like she had little control over her bladder. They did say it was normal for them to have accidents when they are pregnant. To be safe I would make sure you vet rules out any health problems she may have but for the most part I was told it was normal. You should start her on a high quality puppy food right away. She needs the extra nutrition before and after she has the pups. It is also normal for them to lose their appetite when they are pregnant. If you do a search on here, there are a couple recipes for pregnant yorkie moms that you can make that will help her to eat better. Good luck and let us know how things go!!

| Thanks guys. Do you think that I should reschedule her appointment for this week ? Her appointment for her pregnancy test is next wednesday, If I take her in sooner do you think they can do the test then ? Or do you think that she will be o.k. until next week ? If it is a urinary infection, should I get her in right away. She isnt licking herself that much, she just once and a while has I guess an accident. She is still a caffeine pill running around and playing. it hasnt stopped her at all. Where should I look for the receipe for the pregnant mommy ? again thanks guys |

| i have never taken my babies into the vet for a preg test ever. you should be able to tell on your own on day 45-50. now the dripping on the floor sounds like she may have uti. now i would have her ck'd for that.

| I think that I know she is just by the weight she is gaining. The hording of her treats inside her bed. She wont let the male in her bed. She keeps moving her blanket around and around tyring to make it perfect. you know how you just know ? I mean I think we know our babies well enough to know a change ? Is UTi Urinary Track Infection ? Should I take her in this weekand have her checked ? How does she get it ? She is a very clean puppy. God forbide her bed, bowls, herself ever get dirty she throws a fit. What do you think about bathing her ? Is it o.k. to wash her during pregnancy ? I use a very mild puppy shampoo and conditioner. (no flea shampoo) they are on Revolution but I have not given it to her since I thought she was pregnant. Will the UTI hurt the babies in any way ? I appreciate your input. |

| normally they don't hord anything until 24 hrs prior to whelping. also, they don't start gaining weight right a way. so i am unsure why she is doing this.

| How far along do you suspect she is? There really isn't a pregnancy test that they can do. Just ultra sound or x rays. The Ultra sounds are expensive and the X rays are best doen the last week after the puppy bones start to calcify. |

| Do you think that I should take her in right away and have her checked ? If she has UTI does it have an odor, Because there is no odor out of the normal for urine. Now I am getting worried. I hope that she is o.k. Can they treat this (if she has it) while she is pregnant ? Does this affect the puppies while she is pregnant ? I dont know why she is hording her treats, unless she is not hungry when I give them to her and she is saving them for later ? I think that I should get her into the vet this week, What do you think ? |
